motion blur (flash problems) nikon D80

hey everyone, for motion blur i know you need a long explosion. But i need the flash to fire just before the lens closes, what is this called and how can i do this on a nikon D80. This is the sort of image i'm trying to do:

Any ideas/tips
 
I could be wrong but i believe its rear curtain sync, hold down the flash button and using the scroll wheel you can scroll it to rear sync
 
THATS IT!!! rear curtain! that has been bugging me for ages. Thankyou so much. lets give it a go :-)
 
Indeedy, it's also sometimes called 'second curtain' sync. Don't worry if you think it isn't working, it'll still flash at the beginning which might make you think it's not working properly. This is just a pre-flash for metering, and has no effect on the exposure as it happens before the shutter opens!

thanks guys, and also thanks for not commenting on my spelling of exposure. lol "explosion", good thing you dont need to spell to be a photographer.
