Mother Teresa declared saint by Pope Francis at Vatican ceremony

"Today, abortion is the worst evil, and the greatest enemy of peace."

"I think the world is being much helped by the suffering of the poor people."

Opposed women's rights, opposed contraception, knowingly accepted stolen money, endorsed despots, and trivialised Bhopal.

Saintly? Pffft.

Shame on you all, sat in your armchairs, doing nothing to help anyone but yourself.
Here is a woman who devotes her life, builds an army of helpers, thinks nothing of easing the suffering of others.

Take a moment to read her story before casting your armchair critisism.
Today she sits in the company of her god as a saint as a ritchous person, bereft of sin.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, as I am not a religious man. If anything I'm quite often anti-religion.
Whilst I'm not completely-read in the history and life of Mother Theresa, what I have read does not make me think she was a saint (or what we often attribute as 'saintly' qualities).
Like has been said ...opposition to women's rights, abortion, divorce etc. Not to mention the money 'issues'.
The 'miracles' are simply b******t IMO too.

That said, declaring her a saint is akin to a toddler declaring his cat lord and ruler of the kingdom of under the stairs. It's all b******t hype.
And like Rich has said....being celebrated by an organisation that has actively covered up worldwide child abuse is hardly an honour.
Not to mention things like gay rights and the many other abuses of the 'church'......I'm torn between 'She doesn't deserve it.....' and 'It's all b******t anyway'.

You ought to wind your neck in sunshine. You are the one who celebrated the death of Victor Barrio aren't you, so hardly a shining beacon of how to act decently.

You're entitled to that belief, of course.
But please don't pontificate as if t'were fact.

he participated in the killing of animals for sport and amusement and was a sinner, he was judged sunshine.

I thought people were judged AFTER they died or are you suggesting that god deliberately caused his death? A hell of a lot more people deserving of that judgement yet it only appears to have been dished out to someone who killed bulls. Strange set of priorities this god has.

And laughing it's frill off at the ovine nature of it's followers!

So you think it's fine to start a thread about a controversial subject, then throw your teddy out of the cot when challenged. :dummy:

My only response is 'get a grip'.;)

The Catholic Church has been a force for evil for almost it's whole history. If you want to serve it or defend it then feel free, but it's naive at best to get offended if people disagree with you.

She was indeed a 'remarkable' woman who did a lot of 'great work'. But then so has Bob Geldof, he doesn't get to escape criticism either ;).

And if I'm being fair, Sir Bob doesn't have half the downsides that Mother Theresa has. Her medieval view of the world caused as much (if not more) poverty and suffering than she ever alleviated.

Yeah, shame he couldn't bring himself to intervene when his ministers were abusing children and his cardinals were facilitating it then covering it up. I guess he was busy?

Brilliant; OOF is as consistent as ever. Must be comforting for some to have such certainty on how threads go.

What on earth does that mean?

How are they supposed to go?

How did you think this one would go?

And so what?

Exactly as it has gone and they always go

You could always pray for a better outcome, see how that works out.
:) Well you started using my name, so that is a promising start

Details, instead of a vague frustrated exhale, perhaps?
As it is all on show it would be improper to add details as that would imply me making it up ;)

My bad. ;) I just thought we needed some counterbalance to the sycophantic outpouring of admiration for a woman who was not without criticism or controversy.

As well as a response to medievalist magic fantasy.

I don't think any human being is without criticism or controversy, doesn't mean once can't admire fellow human beings for the good things they've done. And naturally doesn't mean once can't criticise them either.

Her reputation far outshines the accomplishments she made - it is a cult of personality that borders on idolatry. But Christianity has oft sailed close to the wind on that one with the veneration of saints.
The 'miracles' attributed to her stink of desperation by the RC church to score a PR exercise from her death. It all seems a little tawdry to be honest.

Exactly as it has gone and they always go (y)

I think my fellow forum-member is questioning whether you like that this thread has gone tits up or are equally as frustrated as the OP ;)

That's my kind of fence-sitting! :)

It was the giant font.
It pained my eyes more than JP's random "all on show" selfies. :D

Have you considered a career in politics, sir?
I believe the Labour Party may be hiring. :D :sneaky:
