Well its that time of year again, last year my 12yr old KA passed with flying colours and the tester said he couldnt even find any advisories on it.
Its going in this afternoon so fingers crossed I can get another year out of it.
This is my 10th year with this KA and it has NEVER let me down or cost anything more than a service so I can honestly say I have had my moneys worth from it:thumbs:

that dont look good , is it a bad fail ?? :'(

Its passed on everything I thought it wouldnt pass on but it needs welding on the suspension bodywork which is going to be costly and a new handbrake cable

not good , how about the scrappage scheme ?? :)

I really cant afford a new car at the moment looks like the d2x will have to go as needs for transport are more than needs for a camera

there must be somebody on here who can offer mate's rate's

Thanks but its not a question of the welding its more a question of stripping the suspension to get to the area.......nice thought though:thumbs:

Hope you find someone who will give you a good price on the work so you don't need to sell the camera... What a horrible time of year to get news like that. :(

Thanks all for the nice responce's but it looks like the KA is off to the scrappers and at least I have a few month to save up for another D2X maybe not as nice but still needs must and I have just realised the stero is worth more than the car now:lol:

Put it on ebay, my father-in-law would buy a turd on their if it was cheap enough, he's always looking at cheap cars to play with.

god don't scrap it! you'll get good money for something liek that, easy job to someone who knows how! i'd offer my mechy/welding services on the cheap but i'm in cheltenham :(

Take it to the local college? I know my old college used to take apart and put cars back together - and the D.T teachers are normally welding trained. Offer to bung them some cash to weld it and they'll no doubt do it.

Bottom line is this, if your car budget is what you get for your D2X the rest of the KA is OK and you're happy with it you may be better off biting the bullet and spending the cash on welding it up

£1150 isn't a massive budget, mind you there are some bargains about

I recently sold a Subaru Legacy , they guy who came to look at it wanted it before he'd got out of his car, he was 70 but the sort of 70 that could walk 15 miles a day, he took one look at my car, said i'll have it, i'll go to the bank now.

He got in a 51plate Ford Focus LX so I asked him what he was doing with it

er dunno stick it in the paper I suppose

how much do you want for it

oo eer I hadn't really thought about it, how does £800 sound

er Ok i'll take it for a drive and see, I got in it expecting to see 130,000 miles, 45k one owner from new so I knocked £800 off my car and we were all happy

when I drove it home something I hadn't noticed, it had £50 worth of petrol in it :D

www.pistonheads.com/classifieds

if you click advanced search there's an option on the right to see newly listed cars , they list pretty often so it's worth refreshig to see if any bargains come up, there are a lot of scammers on there though so if you see a 30k BMW being advertised for 7k don't turn up with cash

It appears that one of my workmates does a spot of welding so its off to him on monday to see whats what, and thanks all for the nice comments and a huge thanks to Kev for the offer of help:clap::1st:

The camera gear has now been removed from sale:banana:

Had a Ka that age and loved it. Had blue bumpers, that plastic kind, I had to go over them with a heat gun went the sun faded them.

It went through 2 d/side suspension arms, but whilst the first was £300, the second was 50.

Hope you can sort it out, loved that little car, wish we had kept it.

I have driven the newer versions of the same shape, and they weren't the same, crap interior and didn't drive as well.

It looks like its gonna be good news my good mate thinks the welding is only going to cost around £100 so the little KA lives again

good to here it will be sorted DM :)

someone ran into back of my sisters car this week, maybe 10mph impact speed and the cars probably a write off  big crease in the bodywork on the roof

Living in Scunthorpe, you must know somebody who is good with steel..............

OUCH............just had the KA inspected to see if it was worth having repaired and its not good at least £500 alone in welding plus a further £100 for the brakes and thats doing it cheap as both sills need to be replacedand all the front suspension has to come off to repair the rest so its back to my original plan and sell the camera but dont worry I will have another after the new year.

Did you consider doing what I suggested? Take it to the local college and ask them to weld it?

The college I went to earlier in the year used to teach welding and I'm sure many of them do, so offer a few quid and they might just do it.

Matt - take it to a dedicated MOT center - not a garage with a MOT facility. If you take it to a place that only does MOT's then they aren't interested in screwing you for money.

I took my Corsa to a dedicated one, I thought it would fail on the exhaust having a crack but he put a load of putty in it and passed it

Exactly what I did this year and last year and the centre is a very reputable on that will not do any work on any car apart from free bulbs and air if needed but the MOT does cost a bit more (£49) BUT WELL WORTH IT IF YOU WANT A HONEST mot
