weekly morpheus75 week 52 2013 *** week 16-21 added ***

Wild - I like the blue, it's different. The quality doesn't look as good as it could be, is it over sharpened or perhaps a very heavy crop?

Space - great idea, nicely done. I like the composition, especially the way that you have only included part of the moon.

Work - I would try cropping a slither off the right hand side to lose the crane that is sticking out of the frame. Also, perhaps a boost to the contrast might be good.

Time - I'm afraid none of them really jump out for me. 1-3 are blurry and on number 4 I would have waited until the second hand was crossing over the other 2 hands so it wasn't sticking out of the frame at the top. Sorry, being a bit picky :)

thanks all for your comments.
the wild pic was taken through glass and it had strong blue lighting at the aquarium. i did try and change the blue down to blacks but kind of spoilt the pic so i left as is.

will put all these comments into practice for my next theme.

thanks all..

week 9 - juxtoposition

been thinking for a few days (once i found out what it meant) how to go about it, had a couple of ideas but didnt have the props and so today i found these in my kids bedroom, they, like me love star wars so came up with this....

09juxtoposition01 by m0rpheus75, on Flickr

tried a few different angles and i like this one to try and focus in on the heads, as usual all feedback welcome.
thanks

Hi ya

brill idea & well shot...right on theme..:thumbs:never thought of using 2 identical items in that manner

finally got round to doing my 'LETTER' shot. i thought i will get it in before the new theme tomorrow. what initially thought was an easy theme turned out to be the hardest so far. i like to be creative when choosing a shot to take to test myself and after numerous attempts came up with this:

10letter01 by m0rpheus75, on Flickr

tried to keep all LETTERS in focus whilst blurring the numbers....
as usual all feedback and critique welcome.....

Juxtaposition, well thought out, good concept, scale and depth of focus.
Letter, good idea but I think the focus on the letters could be sharper or maybe a darker to be more defined. Not too sure to be honest but nevertheless a great idea.

'ello, Letter, in theme and great use of shallow DOF.

Not sure if the WB is a tad off? Bit off the bottom for me.

Cheers.

thanks for all previous comments!!

Week 11 entry - electric

i didnt have my circuit boards at hand for what i really wanted to do but probably try that a bit later on but heres my entry now.
i always think of electrical circuits as roadways so this is what i have tried to portray -
all feedback welcome.....

thanks

Good focus and colours, Just not my cup of tea (image wise) I'm afraid it does nothing for me. Perhaps the other side would have been better with a few wires sticking out or something?

to be honest thats what i wanted to do, but only had the hard drive lying around - hence later i will try and do a retake on this shot

Morpheous, not sure about the message in Letter; why ROADSIDE? What's it saying to me? Also the tips of some of the numbers are out of focus which is a little disturbing.

I found the Electric one interesting; lots of nice lines about the place, but in the end there's nothing for the eye to settle on as "the subject". So maybe if you could see a nice big IC that would have been the subject? Good thinking though!

Hi ya

close shots work for every time so I like this one for Electric....:) Can't help wondering if a lower angle & shallower DOf might have added a bit of something  I do like your thought of seeing them as Roadways....needs a slight rotation left as a smidge on the squiff..

hello all again.
been away on courses then easter break but back again!!!

@ChrisR - ROADSIDE was just there to highlight 'letters' compared to the numbers above - couldnt think of anything else and time was running out!
Re - electric, i did want to do a proper city style shot but didnt have a circuit board lying around, so will try again later on..

@Blondie606 - thanks!

Week 12 - Direction

Been to London over Easter and i wanted to try some night shots and i think this fits in nicely with 'Direction' - feeedback always welcome...

thanks

Vey much like the idea, this is a technique I am yet to master

To me though this looks over exposed. Some pp of levels may help but the white light at its destination seems blown. Also I think it needs straightening.

I like the star effect street lights

Thanks for your comments. Problem i had was family in the car wanting to get home so not had a lot of time. Was travelling light so forgot my filters and remote release and above all it was cold. Definitely going to go down to London again on my own and try again.
Thanks for your comments

I really like it, cant comment on technique as i have never had a go at anything like this!

Nice one, You're very close to having a great shot there.

I think that if you straighten big ben and push the exposure down a touch it would improve this no end. ;)

A classic shot nicely done. As far as crit goes, it would have been better slightly earlier whilst there was still some blue in the sky and the clock face is a little over exposed.

Thankyou all for your comments. I would have preferred to have got there for around sunset time but wife and kids with me plus traffic! All being well will be going down again purely on a photo taking trip.

Hi Morp

I was not to struck on the letters or electric but I really like your direction shot, but I would crop the RHS to lose the blurred lady. I like light trail shots and take quite a few myself

I haven't yet had any experience doing light trails. Its something i must have a go at. For improvement is it possible to get the same effect and have Big Ben in focus at the same time?

Cheers

Alan

Electric, good detail and WB.

Direction, cracking trails and good composition. Lights look a tad over exposed.

Cheers.

have to agree about the over exposure a bit of a straighten and less exposure would really make it

thanks all for comments. finally got a chance to catch up so here are my next 3 entries to get me back on track just before week 16 is announced!!!!!

week 13 - tacky
i thought of in terms of 'taste' but didnt find anything but i did find this:

13tacky01 by m0rpheus75, on Flickr

thinking now maybe could do with being cropped but unfortunately no time left... again...

Week 14 - Value
my rationale for this is - Europe is in a bit of a crisis so is there any 'value' left in their currency?????

14value01 by m0rpheus75, on Flickr

i can see a small amount of blur on the right but it was hard to keep the coin 100% still, i havent got any blu-tak either!

finally..
week 15 - greed
i really like the shots where we have a line of items and varying DoF gives different effects so thought i would give it a go myself.. found it quite hard as i have 18-200 lens and not a huge amount of space to work in, so macro lens again for this shot, but here is my effort...

15greed01 by m0rpheus75, on Flickr

thanks all

Hi, Tacky, like it. Nice and minimal and good detail. I like the surface.

Value, cracking angle and detail.

Greedy, on theme but not as good as the above 2.

Cheers.

Three nice shots, great depth of field control (particularly greedy, but also in tacky, and keeping the value shot sharp), nice subdued colours for the first two, good stuff!

thanks all for previous comments.
been on hols and busy with work so couldnt get on to post pics etc.
for my 6 weeks worth of catching up i have found images to match the topic from my trip to Spain and the formula 1. so here goes......

week 16 - angles

16angles01 by m0rpheus75, on Flickr

all the rooms from the ruins seem to be at a right angle to each other... taken in Alhambra

week 17 - rustic

17rustic01 by m0rpheus75, on Flickr

my interpretation, is of an old building and in this case the ruins in Alhambra

week 18 - kind - i have gone, like most others with 3 of a kind...

18kind01 by m0rpheus75, on Flickr

this was also taken in Alhambra

week 19 - vertical (or defying being vertical)

19vertical01 by m0rpheus75, on Flickr

these guys were street performers and were leaning at very acute angles which basically defied gravity - this was in Madrid

week 20 - pattern - this was also taken in Alhambra, the patterns were etched out of stone and were very beautiful and intricate...

20pattern01 by m0rpheus75, on Flickr

week 21 - movement - this is Romain's Lotus F1 car

21movement01 by m0rpheus75, on Flickr

thanks all
