Yes
do the people around you sometimes make you shake your head or actually shock you at how stupid they are?

today i was in a petrol station, i paid for my fuel got back in my car and noticed the person on the pump next to me was lighting a ciggy..... now we all know what happens with naked flames and petrol vapour... this act in itself wasnt exactly intelligent but it was nothing compared to his next action...

he wound down the window and chucked the lit match out of it (onto the petrol station forecourt underneith my car!:cuckoo:

how do people like this who lack even the most basic intelligence actually manage to get themselves out of bed in the morning !

There are a lot of people like that. Just sheer stupidity, no thought what-so-ever.

Reminds me of the time I blew the tyre off the rim of my mountain bike, using the airline, just outside the canopy of the petrol station :) I looked up, with my ears ringing with people running all over the forecourt - oh how we laughed !

No accounting for stupid :cuckoo:

Must be something about petrol stations today. I went in to fill up and the guy in front of me pulled forward a bit to let me in. Filled up and went into shop, waited for ages to pay and when it was my turn told the guy the pump number.

"That'll be £54.99 please"

"How come, I only put in £40??"

"Ah no, that's another one"

Turns out when he asked the first guy for £54.99 he said it wasn't his and paid my £40 instead. The guy wasn't particularly worried as the CCTV got his registration number. I refused to move until they'd physically checked amount on the pump though :)

I am sat here chuckling my arse off at that

 Even I am not that stupid!!

Also worthy of note, Darwin did discover some undocumented issues with some of us ....

Some suffer from IQ that fluctuates, it maintains an equilibrium and balance at room temperature. Hence, you may see these individuals every now and then, they're so easy to distinguish from the majority of the rest.

petrol stations can be dangerous places

I just nipped out for some fuel and now I feel ever so ti yred :D

its actually really hard to light petrol with a fag/match thats been dropped, they cool down really fast, its really just a cinema thing where petrol explodes like that, and the vapour can't really build up in an open petrol station think thats why they're shaped that way. Though in an enclosed space vapour goes bang v easily

I once drove a burning car into a petrol station. I was wondering why the owner was running towards me waving his hands!

An oily rag had dropped onto the manifold and caught light.

I calmly used their water can to put it out then drove up to the pump for petrol.

Steve.

Petrol has a very high ignition point and a very low flash point. (I'm always getting these terms muddled up but I think that is right)

So what that (should) mean is that a naked flame will ignite petrol at quite a low temperature, but you can pour petrol onto very hot metal and it just helps to cool the metal down. That's why cigarettes and matches that have gone out but are still glowing can't do it, but lighting your cigarette can.

I think to get the cinema effect they use a lot of explosives!

Out of interest, what car were they driving ?

so his actions were acceptable then? :nono:

regardless of petrol/petrol vapour flash points messing around with any form of naked flame in a an environment containing flammable liquid/gas isnt sensible in the slightest really is it:shrug:

Without the stupid people we would not have anyone to measure our own superior intelligence against :D.

probably not the best idea in the world, I wouldn't do it, but its not as likely to be problematic as it seems (still an unnecessary risk though)

vauxhall vectra mk1 in a maroney sort of colour

That about sums him up.

Films use gas/propane type I believe, safer that petrol and greater effect.

Liquid petrol will extinguish (?) a flame and cool hot metal but petrol vapour is fairly easy to ignite and has a greater explosive force than tnt, ounce for ounce in a confined space.

Bet the exploding tyre smarted.

I beg to differ: my great uncle burned to death in an accident involving petrol, and as a consequence my father has always had a healthy respect for it.

When my sisters and I were kids, while filling up our petrol-fuelled lawnmower my father once spilled a little petrol on the lawn. He called us over and pointed it out, told us not to go near it, and to come back in an hour. An hour later he called us over again, and told us to stand back. He said "Watch"; lit a match and dropped it onto the patch where the petrol had been spilled, and it promptly lit with a "Wuff!".

That was petrol that had spent an hour on a lawn.
