I'm Nick!
I've never really been interested in photography, but I've always taken lots of pics... if that makes any sense?
I've always been a point an shoot Philistine, more interested in the memory than the art, usually happy with whatever's on my phone. That's not to say I don't appreciate good pics, not that my judgement is up to much, and over the years I have been at festivals, bike shows, race meets etc, and half wished I could grab a decent distance shot or a better close up!
Imagine my surprise then, when I responded to the subtle enquiries about what I might like for my upcoming Birthday with the words 'a camera'... why?
Well I recently had a son, and I'd quite like to document his development in a half decent way. I'm sure I'll still end up whipping the phone out a fair bit, but we've already booked his first festival, he's already been to his first Chop & Rod show, and we're taking him to Brands Hatch for the last BSB meeting of the season, and I'd like a decent record of it.
I'm currently leaning towards bridge options, partly because I have no idea what I'm doing, and don't want his early years to be blurred while I learn the ropes, and partly from a portability point of view... if we're out with the boy we have enough to carry, and if not I'll be on the bike. I appreciate that awesome action shots will be beyond me, and that I'll always fall short of DSLR quality, but that's my current thinking.
I'm off for a look around now, and I promise to use the search function before asking the same question for the millionth time!
