As a newbie I hope I'll be forgiven for posting this outside of the 'sticky' thread, but no one seems to be reading it or at least nobody has answered my question.

I've just treated myself to a new Nikon D600 and unsurprisingly there's no conversion for it in PSE9 yet. More worryingly there's a suggestion that there might not be ever, with Adobe only providing support for NEF conversion via PS CS6. I'm going to contact Adobe to check, but meanwhile I've been gobsmacked that Corel Paint Shop Pro X2 does open my NEF files from the D600 even though it's an old version of PSP that came free with my Computer - and has never been updated.

How can this be?

Also noticed elsewhere in the forum reference to a DNG converter download from Adobe but, if I am right, I have to wait for this too to be updated. I don't have Lightroom but if I did would that make a difference?

Sorry if there's actually a few questions there. Would appreciate all and any comments.

Adobe stops support for a version as soon as a new version is released. As far as I can remember the latest version of DNG 7.1 doesn't yet support the D600 (it's only just got the d800) but a new version is due out fairly soon that should support the D600.

Why PSP supports it I'm not sure, it might be they keep on supporting older versions or it might be their raw converter recognises the D600 as an older version of a nikon camera (say a d300 or something) and opens it anyway.
Lightroom 4 has a newer version converter, I believe theres a 4.2 RC but from memory that doesn't support the camera either (I coulb be wrong)

Thanks, though I'm still a little unsure as to whether this means I simply have to be patient or if, when the converter does come on line, I'm going to have to invest in a different Adobe product, be it Lightroom or CS6.

I guess I'll have to wait and see. Thanks again.

The converter should work fine once it supports your model, you could try the existing version, it might work fine, I haven't got a D600 raw to try.
