Just got an email off the digital camera company that might be of interest to someone after a 1dsmk3

Until midnight on Monday they are offering free delivery on any order. They say they have the 1DsMk3 in stock here...

http://www.digital-cameras.com/xpp-canon_eos_1ds_mark_iii.html

and according to the email it you enter "mark3" at stage 5 of the checkout you get a further 2% off ( £109.998 )

So that makes it £5389.02 inc free Sandisk 4GB card.

No idea if that's cheap or not but thought I'd point it out. :)

Well, the cheapest price on Camera Price Buster today is £5389.99, so this represents a saving of 97p. I think if I were looking to drop £5000+ on a camera there might be other factors that would come into my purchase decision...

Was just pointing it out. I know people are always after a bargain. Personally I prefer to by from a real bricks and mortar shop when buying high value stuff but not everyone does this.

Its always interesting to see advertised prices, so cheers for that. Wonder where we'll be in 6 months time (closer to my means i hope :))

I belive you can get them for £4000 in the good old USA so might be worth a cheap flight over if you were looking for one, seems funny how we have to pay over the top in this country:bang:

Well if you add VAT and import duty onto the £4k then you get to £5150+ so we're not getting ripped off that badly. Remember the $7999 price in the US doesn't include sales tax so the price over there is higher than that at the till.

but do you have to pay the tax and vat could you not go over with a camera bag maybe an old body and just bring back the new ;) a friend goes to Disney wold every year with a empty suitcase and brings back jeans trainers etc

Its doable but illegal.. HMRC will check model numbers against shipped-to country if they are suspiscious (and when aren't they)

Dont forget the very stong £ is also a factor - great for when we go abroad but not so good as an international SRP comparitor

As Jonneyreb says this is illegal, but then so is buying from hongkong through ebay and not paying duty and VAT but then nobody seems to care about that either...

If you buy in the US you have two options. Buy the camera at $7999 + whatever state tax is where ever you are, or buy without paying tax and they give you a customs receipt. The first option is illegal if you don't declare it to customs, if you take the latter option and don't declare it on the way into the UK and pay the fees, then you'll soon get a letter from customs demanding it + costs of recovering it later on.
