I've got lightroom on both my PC and my Laptop and I've just bought an external hard drive from StuvUK to stick the whole lot of my photos on. So far I've moved everything from the laptop onto the external storage and told lightroom where the catalogue is now living and everything is hunky dory. Now I want to add everything from my PC to the external storage and I think I might have a problem if I don't find out how to do it right.

With Raw Shooter all the adjustments were in a folder along with the relevant photos which is easy enough but I don't know how lightroom does this as they don't seem to be in the folder with the photos. How then am I going to merge the two catalogues along with the adjustment files together without overwriting data from one or the other? Or am I making more of it than needs be?

I had a look at that but I think Hoodi was just moving one catalogue not trying to merge two. I think once all the images are copied across I'll have to manually copy every subfolder in the Previews folder into the Previews folder from the other source so they become one. Would be nice if I could merge the whole lot rather than having to copy and paste each folder.

Not sure what to do about the Lightroom Catalog.Irdata file though seeing as I can't merge two of them.

Also, since installing 1.1 on the PC I seem to have lost a really handy function on the histogram. Version 1 used to highlight which part of the histogram was being affected by the different adjustments but 1.1 doesn't. Is it an option I need to turn on in 1.1 or is it something they got rid of?

I posted the wrong link, i will look for the one I thought it was and post it later.

I cant find it but

To merge 2 catalogues

1. Open the main catalogue, The one with most images or your chosen one. (make sure both are version 1.1, if not rebuld the version 1.0 first in lightroom)

2. Goto FILE > IMPORT FROM CATALOGUE (select the catalogue you wish to import)

3. Repeat until you have all the catalogues in the one you want.

Hope this is what you meant.

As for the histogram highlight - in the develop module, place your cursor over say " Exposure " slider and the histogram will highlight which part is affected.

I'm not doing bad here to say I don't use Lightroom myself, just configure / show others how to use it.
