More iMac woes - Apple 'Preview' image app, Photoshop CC, Web, 8 and 16 bit files

Preview has a problem with calibrated profile settings Neil which I believe you have set? I have an apple cinema display at work (2011) and i7 retina at home, I personally find it's best to use the presets in calibration, but I am working to pre press industry standards for print using Adobe 1998.

Hi mate - do you mean the ICC profile i created using i1 profiler?
When you say use the presets what do you mean Neil?
I know you work in Adobe RGB but my screen only has a 75% Adobe RGB gamut coverage and alas wouldn't be suited, perhaps?

Totally confused!! LOL!

Sorry Neil, just meant use either SRGB or Adobe RGB preset instead of ICC profile you create. I've played with calibration spiders and software before but always ended up getting confused and not liking the results! I believe my iMac has 80% Adobe RGB coverage, even some of the most expensive monitors only cover up to 85-90% my work monitor has 70% Adobe but would I notice the difference if I ran them side by side, doubtful! I think simple programs like preview get confused as well, I know when i've tried to set up with calibration software before the blacks on preview go completely BLACK and look horrible, yet everything looks fine in PS and Lightroom etc.

I think I was in the same position as you with my first couple of macs, trying to get the perfect calibration but eventually gave up and took advice from the printers I use. It might be worth contacting a printer and maybe ask the question, imo good printers or pro togs seem to be the only people to understand the colour profiles and calibration.
