My new 1.4 extender arrived... I took my 300mm off which is rare as its been on there yonks...

Extender wouldnt lock in place

Went to put 300 back on and that wouldnt lock either.. looks like the lens locking mechanism has gone :( Back to canon for its 3rd visit i guess :(

Is that pin on the camera lens mount doing anything when you press the lens release button, or is it stuck in - or out?

It must have a mind of its own cus now its working.. when not working it tightens as it gets close to locking then nothing... the button seems to work ok .. it just doesnt click.

I know I have come to get my camera and lens out of case and they seperate once.. i thought i had accidently hit the button as its a tight fit in the peli case.. now i am thinking dodgy connection.. needs fixing :(

have sent a message to me cps rep telling them its a problem and what my next step should be taking into consideration this will be the third send back in the 6 mths since i got it

1) magents failed and camera was a brick
2) came back fixed but calibration so far out unusable
3) lens locking is tempremental and thus dangerous

Bloody annoying with a body costing that much wonga!

It couol just be the fact that one lens has been on there so long and the pin's got a bit stiff?

Could be.. but added to the fact that they seperated once,.... thought it was me at the time but if its tempremental it could seperate when using .. so really need it looking at

Just got this back from CPS representative in nice quick time

Just to let you know i have passed your email on to the Canon Service
Centre who will hopefully contact you shortly. I have also copied in
Frankie Jim at Canon UK.

I am happy with that response.. its far better than the old call your local dealer and book it in... :)

Well it's worrying if it comes apart on it's own for sure. Good response from CPS.

Its bloody annoying isn't it... you buy something, why can't it just work????? Hopefully this will be the last time for you.

I really want a 1dmkiii but i might just wait to see what a MkiiiN or a mkiv holds in store (got to get my wedding out the way first and clear off some existing camera debt  )

Its clicked in place now but its a worry :( See what canon say.. a replacement full stop would be the top answer.. I guess thats a dream so we will see what they say.. I wont be happy with the standard send in as I need it for ice hockey..

the MKII I have will be ok for footy on sat afternoon. but it wont hack it sunday evening at the ice arena..

This is a interesting thread, The other week I was out with my mk3 and 300f2.8Lis on mono and strap round my neck
and while carying the combo it DID come apart and I thought it was just me, now thes has always been slight play in this lens and if I wagle it around a bit I can make it come apart without presing the reliece button, cant do it on the 1dsmk2 or 40d so I will be interested in what canon say as mine will be going in soon.

Well not a peep from them yet :( I made sure i told the CPS rep that I am a working photographer and that I can manage daytime with my mkII but must have the MKIII for Indoor work as thats why i bought it. Thats the message they will ahve passed on....

Does your 300 have a little play when mouted?

Tiniest yeagh.. dunno seems ok but you can tell theres a very slight movement.. but only slight...clicks

Just out of interest does the Nikon D3 suffer from as many problems and if Canon doesn't sort it out to your satisfaction would you consider changing, when it's your livelihood you need reliable equipment.

Would lose too much money swapping over...

Mine has slight movement on all 3 bodies but I can only make it part on the mk3 yet other lenses are real tight on the mk3.

Theres prob more movement than should be now i tried proper.. was just going by what i remeber before...

Over 24 hrs later and no contact from anyone at canon :(

I ahve just contacted my CPS rep again (who was fast to reply and passed my problem and details to canon service) .. I ahve made it clear in a nice dont shoot the messenger way that i am not happy at nothing happening .. I ahve asked for advice on hwo to move forward.

hmmm

Why dont you tell the cps rep that currently there are 1,630,000 links in google if you type in "1d mkiii problems" in google, and ask him, why they have not got the seemingly endless list of problems with this professional camera sorted.

Well its monday just under 5 days from wed pm and nothing.. no contact from canon service or anyone else... just totally ignoring me :(

Have sent you a PM re this.
George

Cheers for that george :)

I got an email from cps late this afternoon saying they in turn just got one from Frankie Jim at Canon UK

he says I should "send it in one last time" and theres some cps fast track labels on there way to me..

I wonder... send it in one last time ?

i so want to make the switch to Nikon but as soon as i do no doubt the MK4 will arrive and blow the D3 out of the water

anyone want a brand new MK3, a MK11-N with less than 1,000 clicks, an EF 400mm L IS F/2.8 and an EF 24-105mm L IS F/4..Go on, swap me for a D3 and 400mm f/2.8 and a bit extra on top

Damn Canon

Ok, Kipax, let us know how you get on, and Gary, I do so fancy a 1D mk3 or a 11-N...

Yes, I have and they are pre paid. Call UPS (I think it was UPS) and they'll pick up next day. You're gonna be struggling for the w/end, even CPS takes about a week till it's returned. Call on the info I gave you on Thurs and explain the situation.
George

Oh, sorry, see you posted this this am, sorry I didn't reply sooner.

I thought with CPS you paid for the shipping to them and they paid for the return.

If it's under warranty, they pay both ways.

Well, they sent me a label by email, postage paid to Ellstree, then after the repair it came back postage paid. I am CPS and it was a warranty repair, however. In other cases I've just sent it at my expense and they have always paid return post, as long as it's a warranty claim!
George

I have never paid to send to canon at ellstree, always get them to send the label, even for non warranty work.

They never paid for mine and this is the third time back. I ahve added a note to my covering letter that I am out of pocket around 70 quid through no fault of my own (worded polite of course)

My 300 lens clicked back in place lastw eek and as i was mega busy i used it. but as from friday i just cant get anything to click in place.. cant attach any lens to it :( Its going back this morning and presumably its a 3 day workaround..

I listed the lens catch problem, random shots OOF for no apparent reason, skintones and calibration that even after being calibrated all lens have to be on +9

Its poor stuff. I better ahve a good working camera for a busy weekend ahead.

I did ice hockey last night.. tried 70-200 on the 1dmkII and composition was easier.. the second third I put the 300 on and the difference in quality is amazing.. this 300 just blows everything else away on any body :)

I was at a cps service centre (shop) today - i spotted a 400mm f2.8 on the counter with a 1dmk3 attached - just come back from being fixed - the lens mount was not working correctly and the lens was stuck on...

so you are not the only one with problems with the mount

would rather stuck on than cant put one on.. probably would have left my 300 stuck on and never sent back :)

Well I sent it monday 9th 22 quid for next day delivery... elstree say they got it wed... on monday this week they tell me its on its way back.. I finally got it this morning thursday ...sigh

considering its been back twice before and all it said was calibrated and tested (calibration never been right after they set it) This time theres more on the worksheet

cleaned lens release pin

recalibrated checked and tested to standard (haha heard that before)

adjustment to af system standard fault related redo, (<6m PVO, <3m OPP)

washer (x32-5021 -220) washer cop

hmmm.. its the standard redo i am more worried about.. this is the blue dot 6mth old version..its supposed to be fully fixed no problem straight from canon.. blue dot on box.. i am a bit suprised blue dot versions need a standard redo ? anyone?
