I did accy v port vale just last week and i had it on my list to send pics to the stoke sentinal (as well as nationals and my local) even though i knew someone would be there.. just in case i got a usage... I did a game for my local paper once and they used an agency pic instead.. scorer ran towards agency guy and he sent it in.. (i was on commision so unhappy but paid)


but when it came down to it i didnt send to the stoke paper because it didnt feel right.. (not a great business decision was it).. but the guy had traveled from stoke to cover port vale and I wouldnt have been happy (as indeed above story) so even though i got some good shots.. i didnt send to his paper

as a business or agency yourself. would you ahve sent it and dog eat dog?
 
I think I would send it aswell to be honest

they can only say no or simply not use it, extra income if they decide to run with it though
 
i woulds send to where ever you think you may make a sale in fact did a FA cup game a while ago and PA were there but sent them out any and low and behold local paper used mine and not PA, you should be there to make money not for the fun of it,
 
I know ;)

They are only fitting there needs best and using what suites the article best, if that means they prefer your picture(s) over there then that's all well and good

some you win, some you lose so to speak

I was on 2 commisions for local papers and was sending to nationals on spec... just seemed iffy sending it to the stoke paper when they had sent a bloke down.. not thinking about the paper.. the poor bloke who had trapped.

Too soft.. should ahve sent them :(
 
You have to ask yourself "would he have done the same?"
 
I would have done what KIPAX did - not send the pictures.
If a paper have sent their own tog - then they will happily use his/her pictures from the game.
Especially with KIPAX already getting two commissions from the game - it wasn't like he went home empty handed.

Few times when I've been at games - if there has been a local papers/visiting teams local paper tog at teh game.. and they have been at a 'wrong side' of celebration. They have actually approached me and asked if I could send that picture to them and they will sort out the payments to me.

That's just me ... and I seem to be in the minority ;-)
 
hmm home to hereford tommorow (wed) and they have 2 papers... might :)

we won 4-0 and there wasnt anyhting worth sending to hereford to be honest.

sent goals and celebrations to nationals as only one other game on.. looked online couple of 1 paragraph reports.. prob no pics.. and I was the only one sending from the game oh hum

Yes, it is, but that doesn't make any difference. It's your call, and has nothing to do with what anyone else might, or might not decide, to do.

I think you've missed my point :)

If you're worried about the impact of a decision you might make on another, it's only reasonable to ask yourself that question as a form of sanity check - especially when it's a business decision.
