Good day people,

As the moon is in the news at the moment could anyone out give advice as to the best? aperture/speed/iso to use? I did try last evening but without success:'(
It was very dark with a very bright moon and a lovely shimmer on the sea, however I only managed to get a bright moon without detail. I used various exposures and film speeds.

Hi,
Yes, it's tricky all right! No I didn't use spot metering. I will try what you suggest this evening, if the weather plays the game!

I took this shot on my Canon 550D with the following: ISO 100, mirror lock-up, tripod mounted, remote shutter release, spot metering, aperture f/8, exposure time 1/200.

Bit surprised how it worked out, I was only using trial and error. Hope the weather plays nicely and you get another chance; think it's going to be a bit too cloudy here. :(

Hi C Spins,

Well that has whetted my appetite. What lens did you use?

C Spins,

What time of the evening did you shoot this?

I have used ISO 400; f16 and 1/200 with a Sigma 100-300 +1.4 TC at 420mm

I have a 70-200mm but if the conditions are right I'll get something that resembles the moon.

Love that shot Carousels Spin; I had been put off shooting a full moon following reading comments that there'd be no detail in it, but yours definitely proves otherwise!
