Took this 3 min exposure of the moon as it rose behind Thurso castle in Caithness.The star trails to the upper right are the constellation Leo and the lowest of the bright "stars" is Saturn.

The colour version is ORANGE!!!!! due to light pollution,i forgot to take my LP filter with me so b&w it is.
 
Spot the newbie mistake,this should have been posted in Photo sharing.Mods please move if you wish....thanks.
 
That is a cracking shot but for me the stars hurt my eyes, I have to look at the shot a while to be able to focus on them properly
 
That's an amazing pic.
Could you see that sky effect as you stood there during the 3 min exposure or was the result on screen a surprise?
 
Arclight,yes i could see the effect but it was faint which is why i gave it 3mins,the trade off being the star trails which some *** find hard on the eyes.
Personally i dont mind them unless i'm taking photos through my telescope,that would mean its not aligned properly.
 
I think this is brilliant and good on you for having the time to set up for this. You can always return some time with your PL :thumbs:
