Could any one recommend the best monthly mag to buy please.

I've just spent a very interesting hour sitting cross legged on the floor of my local WHSmiths looking through magazine after magazine only to come to the conclusion that it's a case of you pays your money you takes your chance.

None of them seem to me to be very informative, while all are hip deep in adverts.

I'm more interested in reading "how to" and photography technical stuff, such as explanations as to how the different lenses work and to what use you'd put them. Yep real beginner stuff.

Thank people.

I've found that there's so much free great online content that there really is no need to pay for magazines

dazzx, your such a cheap skate, but I like your way of thinking :-)

where's the fun in being told how to do something..;)

Trouble you're going to have asking that question here is that we're all looking for different things from a magazine.

I recently stopped buying them as they are all so repetitive - a common comment on this forum.

If I want any info as has already been said you can find most answers on t'web or from contributors on here.

Try DSLR User Magazine - since splitting into two mags with Advanced Photographer, they have become more instruction orientated:thumbs:

I bet this question's been asked before..

:whistling:

I'm surprised you weren't thrown out for treating the store like a library for an hour!! xD

However, I do like Amateur Photographer magazine. It's nice but, as you say, knees deep in adverts. I can't see the appeal of paying for a magazine subscription. So much awesome free content on the interwebs - as I think it was mentioned.

I'm relatively new to photography and have to say that the content on here and on the rest of the web is the way forward, much better than the content in the mag's.

I recently bought one of the beginners mags recently as I was getting on the train and knew I wasn't going to have a decent signal to browse the web. The web would have been better.

Oh and the adverts are dangerous, they keep making me want to spend large amounts of money!

I am a bit of a 'magaholic' and have been devouring the content of as many magazines as I can read for a couple of years now as i'm at the outset in this glorious hobby. What I have noticed is that the same articles are regurgitated every year in a slightly different way as if they are on a cycle. I have seriously cut down now, and seek my advice and knowledge from the internet and various forums for free!

Thank you all for your comments, time for a web search I guess.

If you must have printed material, I know I like a real book or mag sometimes, your local library is usually well enough stocked with books covering basics up.
