North England Monthly Leeds (and local meets) thoughts thread.

Oh cool. I can't do any dates in July but an August meet would be good I still need to sort out a macro meet at some point if there's still interest..

New meet thread opened for August 2nd (we'll call it July meet so we don't feel we've missed out a month).
Peak District being the location, and as always I have 3 spaces in my motor on a first come first serve basis leaving Wakefield at 10am.......

Check out the meeting place forum......

Rich

I'll check it out.

I'm also looking at arranging an outdoor model shoot meet, but ideally need enough folk interested, incase any costs are required, and a firm date that suits everyone before organising.
Thinking early September maybe late August? I'm away 11th sept

I'd be up for this for sure.

Currently Glamling it at the Hideaway near Ripon, I highly recommend the place.

Jackie is away next Friday for a week with the girls. I'm at Spurn point Saturday overnight and leaving Sunday afternoon if anyone fancies joining in, th Blue Pond campsite is very close and I suspect will have place available.i have a two man tent if anyone wants to share.

So, I'd be up for some nightime togging through the week if anybody is planning anything. I still fancy the cave the was previously mentioned (y)

Cheers,

October meet news.....
It's a few months away yet but thinking about an overnighter in Northumberland, similar to the lakes but with a not so early sunrise..... Planning to drive up on the Friday afternoon , camp or b&b, hopefully get some nighttime photography opportunities, and then a full day Saturday, bamburgh, lindisfarn, etc etc.
Options for dates are:-
16th/17th, 23rd/24th or 30th/31st.
Please reply with preferred weekend and we'll go from there.

Rich

Good plan @Mardybum

I would prefer 23rd/24th if possible. I photographed the whitby goth weekend last year and enjoyed it so fancy doing that again on Halloween weekend.

Not so sure i could do a weekend meet but the goth weekend sounds good at whitby.

Is it me or is there not a september meet?

I'm sure people are open to the idea if someone organises something. Rich, @Mardybum , wants to take a back seat on organisation for a while - it just hasn't been possible to arrange something that more than a couple of people have been able to commit to in the past two months despite his valiant efforts.

Agreed.

Rich has done loads over the past few months to keep these meets going. Numbers have been small for the last few. I think we all owe him some effort to sort out the next couple of months meets.

Here are a few locations I would like to visit
Scale haw waterfall
Thornborough henges
Lake Gormire
Lumsdale falls
Top withins
Hardraw force
Falling foss near whitby

I'm still lurking but with being off most weekends and not knowing where I'll be has made it hard to commit. Thats why I've put little input towards the meets, the last thing I want to do is influence something then not turn up :)

That weekend would probably suit me too Tim (y)

Have you figured out why the colourmunki wouldn't work yet?

Totally understandable from your perspective phil and I'm sure you will have loads of input come October time. @Phil-D

I have a few things to try to get the Colormunki to work that were suggested on the website - most seem to be USB related and nothing about dual monitors but we shall see . Will try it out next time you come over.

Just throwing something else into the mixing pot for the future - Nant Ffrancon / Llyn Ogwen. It's a trek for the Tetley Tea Folk but offers waterfalls, lake, hills, three lovely corrugated spigot mortar pedestals, AT blocks, ....sorry, my concrete fetish got out of hand for a moment, valley, interesting rocks, quarries and the coast.

I am same as @Phil-D with the input, i don't want to say i'll come then have to drop out, with my shifts at work being a pain amongst other things happening, I am off to Dublin 3-5 october so mostly working to save some spend for that weekend.

Few places i want to visit:

Top Withins ( I know this wasn't possible in Feb due to the Ice and Fog)
Robin Hoods Bay
Whitby ( I wish to return here as we did miss out the abbey due to time we had) Goth Weekend* too as @randomwindows mentioned
Bolton Abbey
Aysgarth Falls
Wensleydale
and finally try a Cow & Calf Sunset (earlier sunsets from october is handy)

I also have my driving test on 6th october :D so can save for a car.

I'm still hoping to get to one of these meets.....but being a softie I ain't draggin my ass out of bed at silly o'clock if the weather looks less than promising.
A weekend in the lakes sounds good......will keep an eye open on progress and see if it co-incides with my weekend off work. Not entirely sure camping in October is a plan.....I don't do rain or cold but could look at wigwams or hostels for a night....

I wonder if we are best trying to get a location/area for each month and each one can have an organiser? This spreads the load and that person can then dive into the detail in terms of what is possible in the day / look at overnights etc.

I remember talking to Tim @randomwindows re this - an overnight stay in GMT time i.e. October to March is a winner as we can at least get a dawn and dusk captured in human time rather than silly O'clocks, allowing for a bit of a social as well. I think if this gets planned early enough a couple of YHA family rooms would work well.

I'm often caught up in other things so my weekend availability can be limited or clash with dates but will always try and get to a meet as it;s a good crack when we do meet up and always come away having had a good time even if the photos don't always win any prizes !! (Mine anyway!)

I'd be up for organising a night away at a YHA (perhaps the lakes again) as long as we can agree on a date and get some definites rather than maybes!!

PS I'm like @blondie606 - camping is for summer / warm weather. Any other time it is a B&B or hostel or cottage.

Hotels are my choice throughout the year. The only thing that changes with the seasons is if it has an indoor or outdoor pool ;)

Great idea Adrian. Takes the pressure from one person all the time.

I'm certainly up for overnight stays. I would prefer that to trying to drive to far off locations and back in the day. The lakes or as rich mentioned Northumberland would be great in October /November.

Let's keep these going because they are a good cracking.

To be fair we have had a fair share of organising haha i did the feb meet (Haworth) oh yes i know i insisted we didnt change location on weather my bad, @Mardybum does a great job organising though and i appreciate his efforts and for driving :D.. I do hope to make another meet in future though, getting withdrawal symptoms cause not been out with camera since whitby :s

Evening chaps :) This week there's a meteor shower that's going to be at its peak, link here >>>>>>> http://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/meteor-shower/perseid.html

My plan, if at all it happens, is to wait for the right forecast conditions, clear sky, still night, head out and see if I can capture any, even better with the milky way :snaphappy:

Obviously this is going to be short notice, I'm thinking of looking at forecast around tea time and if conditions look good, going out that night........now I say night :D, I'm not a night person but am hoping to see a few meteors with in the first few hours of darkness, say up to about half twelve, one'ish so definitely not an all nighter ;)

Anyone fancy it with me? Not sure where to go, Brimham rocks maybe? Somewhere a bit closer? I did think if we were to wait till Friday night it might work better, but its all weather dependant :p @robphotographer :D

Anyone with an interest or ideas welcome :) :snaphappy:, cheers

Hi Phil

I'm unlikely to make it this week at short notice. :(

I think you're going to need to be somewhere where the sky is sufficiently dark to get the milky way and meteor shower to stand out. Lots of light pollution makes this harder

Last night we were at Fairburn Ings with the boys on a "Big Wild Sleep Out" with the RSPB and there was a star watching session and there was a definite orange glow to the sky but we did managed to see quite a few stars and also watched ISS fly over - brilliant to see!

We were at Fairburn yesterday evening, we saw all the tents in the field next to the hut and wondered what was going on........

That's a shame Adrian, I think the short notice bit will be the problem. Dark skies will be a definite, not sure where to go yet, although last time I did manage this https://flic.kr/p/rjBWFj from the field out the back of mi house and light pollution is fairly bad round here.

Hiya Rich, even if I go out before Friday night, if you fancy it, I'll be happy to go a 2nd time :)..........dog sitting again this week from Thursday so no gallivanting in us campervan :D
