North England Monthly Leeds (and local meets) thoughts thread.

@Phil-D sorry Phil weddings aren't really my thing , but I'll try and help . What we're you actually wanting to achieve with the flash ? Is the flash TTL or will you have to go all manual ? I'd use it just as a fill light bounced from the ceiling or with something like a rogue fleshbender . What ever you do don't leave your camera or flash just hanging around on a tripod as that's asking to be knocked over .

Who's up for a photography day trip to London later in the year?
Date depending I could be up for this . I've never been to London so would be great to have a chance to go :)

I have been to london its not all that... Saying that i was in heathrow airport took me longer to get out of country then it did getting in america, no problem on way back obviously :). But yeah some good tourist spots

Good work Andy, I was up in Bamburgh again last weekend exploring more of Holy Island this time - great place but the weather wasn't great last weekend. Have you got clear skies?

Not clear at all, I would characterise it as moody

Anyway I need to get home...,I'm getting up in about four hours Cheers

Thinking for the July meet, how about a model shoot? I'm sure we'll be able to persuade a couple of amateur models to join us for a few hours in return for some free photos to add to their portfolios ;-)
That'd be the easy part, the hard part would be the location and lighting set ups.......
Sounds like a plan. I can probably get a lighting setup from work. I personally would like to try strobes and an outdoor location but that brings a host of other challenges like equipment and unless we keep it simple and use a single strobe.

..... but I haven't a single clue what we require to do it. ...........

Models (and probably MUA)
Location (looking back at your previous outings there is plenty of potential locally)
Props (if you want to go for some kind of theme)
one or more strobes controllable by relevant camera makes
Imagination

More seriously, each shot will be time consuming compared to your normal adventures. Two togs photographing a singe model at a time is ok but any more togs per model and you'll really struggle with direction and composition. Using models who already have some experience will help you a lot as they'll have a good idea of posing and lighting. Less experienced models might be easier to source / cheaper but will be harder to direct given that neither party really knows what they are doing!

Date depending I maybe able to make it . Model numbers are really determined by the tog ratio, experience and available kit . As some know I have a fairly good setup that I don't mind bringing along and letting everyone have a play with as well as trying to help with advice where I can . I just need to know dates and whether it's going to be indoor or outdoor for what to bring .

This is well worth a look chaps, if it's your sort of thing :)........I'm a bit gutted I'm off fishing and already paid for 2 nights camping

Evening all, well Jackie and the girls are off to Scotland for a week towards the end of July, I was invited but politely declined :naughty:

So, once the date is settled I'll be out most nights togging. I'll post the date her and see if we can organise a few nighttime meets.

Cheers.

Evening Tim, @randomwindows , did ya get to Thornes Park? I haven't been for years but it was always a good evening :cool:

As for July...........I've got to say the same again.......I'll just hang back, see where you chaps decide to go/do, then let you know if I'm coming or chasing the sun :D

I don't feel its fair if I influence the meet, then drop out because we decide to go to the coast :)

I'm always up for a short notice, interim, mid week evening meet though if anyone fancies one (y)

Hi Phil @Phil-D

yes i went to Thornes Park - it was good - loads of interesting cars from Rolls Royce down to Fiat 500's. Loads of Bikes and commercial and old Army vehicles.

There was some talk of hiring a model but not sure if that was for July. Will see what ideas people have.

I'm keen for short notice/Interim meet over the next week or two. There was some talk of Ilkley and Arncliffe Crag.

No idea yet on the july meet, sending my camera for sensor cleaning so will be without a camera tor a week

I will keep eye out though on any plans

Any thoughts on a July meet Chaps?

@robphotographer
@Mardybum
@Phil-D
@posiview
@drooke
@Buck
@TimmyG

and any others i may have missed!

Andy mentioned the Druids temple which looks cool, not sure what else is round there though? @posiview
Ilkley, Armscliffe Crag, brimham & Peak District have all been mentioned in the past. I'm wanting to spend a day in the peaks this summer but will probs keep it separate from monthly meets and maybe do an interim one weekend soon.

Phil @Phil-D and i are planning a meet this Wednesday evening to Ferry Bridge, and to look for some poppy fields. Rich @Mardybum is also hoping to make it. post in the thread if any others fancy it. :)

Rich

Let me k ow if you do plan a date. I'm planning a day down there soon so if I can make it work we could hook up?

The forum software didn't ping me for this (IIRC it only pings the first 5?)

If you subscribe to (this bulletin board software calls it 'watch') the thread you should get notifications even if you aren't tagged - I subscribe to the Tyke Times threads and get notifications for each.

I would be up for a day in the peaks. Keep me posted when you have a better idea of the date.

As always, it depends on dates and my diary. Will keep an eye on the thread (y)

I've been very hit and miss again lately when getting tagged, as to whether I get the alert Adrian. I started a thread a few months ago in the forum help section about it, but the answer to the problem was inconclusive

Hey Adrian,

I'm thinking Sunday 26th at the minute but this may change to 1st or 2nd August as we may be meeting with friends visiting from Oz on the 26th, just waiting on them confirming.

Any of these dates fit with you?

I get notifications about 24hrs after I've been tagged or replied to on my phone. Very rare I use the forum on my comp...

Using the subscribe route I get notifications (by e-mail as that's what I opt for) within ten minutes. I got notifications about your posts to this and the folly thread and replied to this one when I walked back into my study (I rarely look at the actual bulletin board on my phone) and according to the bulletin board that was 21 minutes after you'd posted here.

Hi Rich

At the minute those two could work - I'd need to double check at home re other things going on but I've nothing in my diary for those dates as yet.

PS did you buy your 10-22 lens?

Hi, all, watching for the 2 August (y)

Full frame, eh, @randomwindows , I'm so glad upgraded to the D750. It haven't helped my technique but the image quality is much better.

Cheers.
Yes i love my 6D. As you say I can't say full frame has improved my technique any but the image quality is much better than the 7D I had before.
