North England Monthly Leeds (and local meets) thoughts thread.

I was thinking that you ought to have a thread specifically for the meet on Friday....and it this rate it will definitely need one as it won't come under the 'Yorkshire' prefix any more :-(

I was always a provisional and won't be able to me it.

Might be an idea to create a separate thread once we have a venue in place to try and get more interest.

Hope those that go have a great time.

Cheers and see some of you the weekend after.

Looks like friday is a no go then it seems...

I will make a decision on Friday based mainly on weather. Will post on Friday morning.

Look what you done @Phil-D haha got them all "weather permitting" obsessed lol

LOL. 'Half decent' weather to me means temperature less than 30C (decent would be less than 24C). Lancashire folks are hot stuff ;-)
Can't see the weather being a problem but I've heard that folks from Yorkshire are as nesh as southerners?

Nah! Coats are for hangers and I only have central heating because it came wi t'house.

When it's cold we sit around t'candle - when it's bl00dy cold we light it :)

Think I'm gonna give it a miss tomorrow

Yup that's what I thought. I might see how tomorrow pan's out and maybe go tomorrow late afternoon /evening.

I'll be round Thornwick Bay / North Landing if you or any of the chaps fancy it Tim .........weather looks good :D

Just got back from Spurn Point and as someone who can be a little forgetful....I forgot suncream and fluid. Weather forecast was cloud so I didn't bother with suncream and left my juice on the car. At about 14:00, clouds began to clear and it got very hot and sunny. I spend a good deal of time on the beach while going to the Point but when I got there I was knackered and gasping for a drink. So had a rest and walked back. I felt I was in the film 'Ice cold in Alice' gagging for a drink. My head and neck are a little red :)

Anyways, I'd a belting place and I think we could easily get 'accidentally' stranded on the Point  during summer when it's warmer at night or even take sleeping bags and stash them somewhere midway between the beginning and end of the point and sleep over. Absolutely loads of photographic interest there and a sunset would be great over the groynes.

We'll get a date arranged for the summer.

Cheers.

One of my favourite placed phil. If I feel like driving that far I will come over. Will message you tomorrow.

That looks good Rich. Unfortunately I'm busy next sunday (somewhere quiet, dark and the only only flashing lights will be from cameras).

Hi guys well I went out looking for some poppy fields today, I didn't find any but I found an old Druids Temple that will be a fantastic place for light painting. I'm not sure whether we could use wire wool because it is quite dry. I'd be very happy to sleep overnight under the stars.

Perhaps we could arrange a date in August?

Few below.

I've not seen any poppy fields at all this year on my travels (which are wide and far). Seen the odd bunch here and there but certainly no full fields..... Shame as I missed the couple local to me last year. There's a poppy map on here I think but not sure how often it's updated.

Nice find on the temple, looks familiar but not sure I've physically been myself. Where is it? It certainly looks like a great spot for an overnighter.... Much light pollution?

I suspect hardly any light pollution.

Cheers,

I'm at the races next Saturday, but if I'm feeling ok on Sunday, this looks promising.
http://www.templeworksleeds.com/2015/06/07/second-public-open-day-details/

It's an ace building outside & in, with some great photo opportunities I'd imagine.

I've been inside a few times, but each time it was dark, very loud, and had lots of flashing lights going on........

Did anyone make it today? I'm still recovering from yesterday's antics so not moved off the sofa all day.......

Is the east coast this Saturday??

It's right next to ferrybridge power station, only thing is there's a great big pilon between them and it. S'pose it could be cloned out :)
Thursday or Friday would be best for me this week [emoji106]
My mistake. It's a week on Saturday. I can do either Thursday or Friday with Friday been the easiest.

Poppy field sounds interesting, I'll let ya know later in week :)

Now..........any of you chaps clued up on indoor flash photography? :D

I've been asked to take a few photos at a wedding next Monday
shakehead.gif
Nothing fancy, but I've got no idea tbh, any hints tips settings?? :D

I'm thinking I'm going to need min 1/160th, quite a wide aperture, not wide open, but enough to give me some depth. I have a flash thingy, never used it but I have a week to practise  Defuser on? The buildings not very bright inside, will it just be a case of a few practise shots? I know I'm asking a lot here, but any simple advice would be very much appreciated (y) cheers :D

Edit - do you think I should post this in the Wedding business section? :naughty:

In 4 words, I have no idea...... Sorry. Maybe one of the other guys might? Failing that, I'd post in the wedding tog section. Or message @BigJohn, I think he's into that sort of stuff with flashy things and stuff.....

Sorry phil @Phil-D I can't help beyond the things you have already mentioned. I do have a couple of video tutorials I could let you have. If you are interested let me know.

Np chaps, I've only had the flash ............well ages :D I intended having a play and trying to learn the basics months ago but putting gels on it and using it 'off camera' has been a lot more fun ;)

@Mardybum Rich, if I posted that in the wedding section I'd be hung, drawn and quartered and the bits would be beaten to a pulp! I'll tag John as well @BigJohn , hopefully he might be able to help with the basics :) cheers

@randomwindows Tim, thanks for the offer (y). You've just made me think, I could look on YouTube, there should be something on there if I search 'Indoor flash for numpties' :D cheers

Phil, definitely consider a difuser and using the flash bounced off card or the ceiling if you do use the flash. Last thing you want is harsh shadows. Also get the flash away from the camera - ideally on a cable so you can hold it where you need it. That said, wedding situations aren't usually all that dark and I managed to get some good shots without flash the week I got my first D300 (couldn't afford food that week never mind a new flashgun). Are the people who frequent the weddings section not so friendly?

Thanks Iain, the flash, although only a cheap one, can be sat on its stand so it's controlled by the flash on the camera going off (does that make sense :D)
I should have said for anyone that hadn't realised, the camera's going to be on a tripod, I'm going to be a bit busy ;) but hopefully not too busy to fire it by the remote :D. Really all we're wanting (read as Lynn ) is just a few shots of us and our immediate family that'll be there.

I'll have a bit of a play with the flash on the camera later, would I/160th, f4, ISO 100 be a good starting point for settings and adjust flash accordingly or is it one of those questions that's impossible to answer? cheers :)
