I just got a monopod free with a new camera bag. It is a manfrotto 790. I've only ever used a tripod before....does anybody have any hints and tips for using a monopod?

The actually monopod itself comes with only safety instructions, no tips on using it.

Any help much appreciated,

L

You will need a head for it (most prefer a ball head) and it's good for things like motorsport, especially if your camera is gripped and has a heavy lens. It can be used in a similar way to a mono-pod but a bit more manouverable.

I'll be using it on holiday mainly for landscape shots....I'm just not sure whether it will be more hassle than it's actually worth!!

:) Cool!

It'd never occured to me that there are so many diferent ways to stabilise a monopod. I generally only use mine in situations where I can lean it at a steep angle against something else (a railing when in town, or a tree in the country), because I wasn't getting sharp shots when using it in "Position 1". In fact, it's been left at home a lot recently and I've gone back to just "hand held with VR" :|. Now I'm tempted to go and give it another go :D.

Thanks for the link :).

Not me! I simply screw it to the foot on my lenses for football and cricket anyway.
