monopod

Manfrotto 679 or 680, I use the latter with 1D body and 400mm 2.8.

I've got a redsnapper and had no problems. built to last

I dont use a monopod head, never have, not seen many people with them to be honest

very few use a head most just go direct on to the monopod. I use quick release plates so have the manfroto tilt RC head on mine but I could have gone for the attachment plate.

Agree with the above. I don't use one

I use a Giottos MM5570 pod, great bit of kit..quite heavy but very sturdy! Also has built in ball head and three legs that are housed in the bottom which can turn it into a handy tool for low down macro work or used as a light stand etc etc..pretty much same as this one.

No head here, straight on to the pod. I thought about a quick release plate but its another point of failure. There is always the possibility of it dropping out of the clamp ! !

Manfrotto here but I do use a clamp ballhead which enables me to get the position right for the shot(s).

I use a manfrotto 681B monopod with the same manufactures 236 spiked foot and 234 swivel head modified with an arca swiss type clamp, I find the ability to angle the monopod forward makes it easier to steady the camera.
Bob

I took all the advice offered here on board and went for the manfrotto 681B mainly because of the extra height. Bought it this morning for £50 and they through in a free head. It's built like a tank, quite heavy and wont fit in my camera bag. But one of the benefits that I can forsee is if I ever get jumped for my camera kit I can use it as an instrument of attitude adjustment! Also if Mr plod stops me I have a good reason for carrying a big metal stick!

Mine has already seen that sort of action after my lad was attacked last year

I practice baseball and have a glove and a ball behind the seat....Oh and thats where I keep the BB bat too :naughty:

I've tried using my Monopod to hit the ball but it just doesn't go as far

I know it doesn't help, but I am able to balance my monopod, fully extended on my chin. Skills like that should really go on my CV.....
