Monopod with legs

Has anyone used these ? What`s your opinion ? I use quite heavy gear 400mm and 300 mm lenses with extenders , so will need a good solid example if one exists . I quite like the idea of just using the bottom part too , similar to a stand alone table top Tripod . I guess quality costs so would like any info , suggestions , not so good comments ect ect ., before I splash out . Posted link for example .

Disclaimer: I have never used one.
I can't see any real benefit over a standard monopod swiveling on its rounded end TBH.
However, I can see a potential danger of momentarily relying on it to support heavy kit whilst doing something else and it falling over.
 
Thanks Gramps , I agree a degree of common sense in it`s use would be needed , leaving heavy expensive gear un attended at full height would likely be foolish . But if you had it set up at lower heights , say 1 or 2 ft , would it be a half decent sub for a heavy tripod ? I do a lot of time sitting and kneeling in ditches waiting for Wildlife , I also often stalk and walk along way , I was wondering if this could be a half decent compromise to shed some weight .

Only you know how it might work for you.
I've used a 500 f4 on a standard monopod and appreciate the convenience but also the potential for a problem.
Having watched a very experienced tog momentarily rest his monopod against a hide wall and then see it fall to the concrete floor with D500 and 500 f4 attached, I am very wary.
Fixing a failed VR on the lens and the replacing the front of the D500 was an expensive reminder for him! :(

Every few years someone brings out one of these and they never work properly. In my opinion, if you want stability take a tripod and if you want flexibilty use an ordinary monopod.
 
Just looks like something to trip over to me.
if you can't trust it to stand up on it's own then ultimately they seem pointless o_O

bit like putting a ballhead on a monopod as well...
 
They do stand on their own, I've used them in the past with a GoPro on top and another time at a wedding I put a remote flash on the top and it stood fine in the corner of the room.

I don't think I would have any qualms about using one with a GoPro but O/P stated:-

Mark, I have a "3 Legged Thing" monopod foot, ref: Docz2 which I can attach to my Gitso monopd when required. It can be useful especially whilst waiting a long time for the bird to show itself from the depth of the bushes! I always have the camera/lens strap round my neck anyway as an added precaution in case of potential mishap. The foot is lightweight and folds when not in use. It is no replacement for a tripod, of course, but gives a bit more versatility to a monopod.

I had one of the siriu all singing all dancing ones ,loads of different functions , but even the carbon fibre one I had was heavy and ultimately it got used once in 6 months so sold it ,nice idea but not practical your better off looking for a wall or fence post
