Anyone recommend a decent monopod for a some up and coming travel trips I have coming up mostly in random cities and nothing to hardcore? When I view them on Amazon there own Basic brand one comes up as the best selling, I will be using it for a Canon EOS camera and small lens so nothing to heavy will be on the end of it, would be nice if quality was decent.

The question is why do you want a monopod for small lens. The purpose of a monopod is generally to stabilise heavy lenses with long focals as the further away the more prone to shake. Would a light tripod be better for travel?

I have a tripod already, I wont be doing 25 sec long exposures just want something that easy to pack.

I am not recommending anything in particular, but as I got in front of me a Manfrotto 3 & 4 section, the 3 section measures some 620mm in length and the 4 section 510mm when closed. The lengths are before you add any heads or other attachments.

My travel tripod can be converted to a monopod by unscrewing one of the legs and screwing it into the centre column. Other than seeing how easy it is to do (very!), I can count the number of times I've used the facility on a worm's fingers. The tripod packs shorter than my monopod (which has a telescope/spotting scope affixed.)
