Mono print problems

I recently ordered 2 (different) 24" x 16" mono prints from a well known online printing company. Both printed on matt paper, to be hung either side of the fireplace.

They are both landscape images, converted to mono in Lightroom 4.2, resized to 24" x 16" and exported as .jpgs through LR.

Now its been a bit of a nightmare from start to finish with one of the mono images.

1. First print came back and part of the fence going into the water has a brown tinge (even though its mono?). Emailed them and they gave me credit to get it re-printed.

2. I ordered the re-print and it came back on gloss paper in mono, with no brown tinge. Emailed them again, and they arranged to get it re-printed on matt paper - they arrange all this themselves.

3. Third print was shipped to the billing address rather then the delivery address, called them and they said they couldnt change the address. Finally got the print after a neighbour signed for it and its in mono, but has the brown tinge again.

So now I have 3 prints that are no good!

Do I now go back again and ask for either a refund or re-print - or kick off?

What would you do?

I would consider that three attempt might be enough and ask for a refund but interesting to know why it has happened. When ordering did you order as b&w or was it just put through? I would at least ask for their comments/explanation

Theres no option to specify mono, so I just uploaded the mono jpg. It looks fine on my calibrated screen, and on otrher non calibrated screens too.

They said for the first print, after I sent a picture of the print, there "may" have been a problem with their printer calibration - which may or may not have been a standard reply.

From a distance you can't see it, but because I know its there its going to bug me :)

if we knew who did the prints we will probably know how they print and might be able to help you.

Do yourself a favour, go to ilford labs they only o b&w you I'll get no colour cast from them they are excellent. I've had b&w done at photobox I love their colour but never print my b&w

I too have had problems with Photobox and their autocorrect - they claimed that part of an order was autocorrected and part of it wasn't. Hmmm.
That said their customer service is pretty good.
I have now been using DSCL for a while and had nothing but excellent prints at very similar prices - both with their autocorrect on and off, which you can choose !

No they can't do mono under any conditions you need dedicated b&w printers like Ilford labs

75% of my photography is B&W, I use DSCL and Lustre paper, producing great prints which have been accepted into International Photo Salons all over the world.

Saying that it did take quite a few attempts at getting what I see on my monitor to match their prints, but this was sorted quite a few years ago, and now have good prints every time.
