If you ever think about buying a new monitor for your desktop check to see that it has an HDMI socket. So much easier tethering a camera too for fine tuning... That way no need for a computer if using a Spyderlenscal or some other type of target

This is an old monitor I did fine tune on

I doubt there are any new monitors without HDMI these days.

Me too, my last one was from 2011 and that had HDMI
Is HDMI even the latest connector type, surely must be something newer by now, my new screen came with leads I didn't recognise

DisplayPort and Mini Display Port seem to be the latest incarnation for monitor connections.

Could well be one of those then, not sure if my PC has those connections and don't think I will bother finding out

10 years as opposed to 15 years for HDMI

This thread is, in a way, a timely reminder that anyone (me included) who needs or wants update or upgrade their monitor bit keep the same PC to add in the (small?) cost of a new graphics card......my old one only has DVI and VGA.

Or even smaller cost - One of these

I changed my monitors last year and had the same issue.....a dual DVI card needed to be replaced by a dual HDMI/Display port card.

What make & model of card did you get?

For that price worth a punt :)

Are you using one and are there any downsides to such a 'convertor' cable???

I've used them to connect hdmi devices to DVI monitors and DVI pc's to HDMI monitors/tv's with no problems.

My old computer gave up the ghost last month, it did have HDMI, but integrated graphics (that nearly sounded like I knew what I was talking about)

New one has HDMI as does the new monitor, so used what I know, don't think I will go messing about looking for anything else.
All working properly and nicely calibrated with a Spyder 5 Pro and Displaycal software, about time I went out and took some photos now
