Monitors- CRT vs LCD

As per thread title which type of monitor do you think is best for colour fidelity and ease of calibration for photo processing use?

I had a 21" Hitachi CRT tube for a long time which I thought was great (appart from it taking up an entire corner of the office). When it went bang I replaced it with a succession of 19" 'budget' LCD screens which although okay never seemed to give the reallistic colours I was used to.

So- in search of perfection- should I be looking for another quality CRT monitor or re-think my choice of LCD screen?

Have a look at Eizo S2000, the CG line is horribly expensive I think, but the quality is solid with the S2000 too. One of these:

Should do you a good service too.

I don't have any of them, but I have an Eizo L557 and it's been really good so far. I've been looking at those in case my L557 would die, but it just lives on and on... it's not that I'd actually mind that, though.

Eizo, Lacie and NEC all make some very very good LCD monitors, but they come at a price. Another option is the Dell 2405/2407. Ive got a 2405 and I can't rate it highly enough.

I'll second the dell 2405/2407. Any of the more expensive dells would be perfect, the cheaper ones have different panels though. I have a dell 2004fpw myself.

I have a colleague who has the Eizo. He loves it but as he admits it's expensive, but for the work he does he can justify it.

The Dell would be a good option. I picked up a Gateway 24" at a good price to replace my Dell 19". Similar quality only bigger.
