Hi again...

carrying on from this thread- http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=471589 I bought a ASUS 27" monitor that was really nice but faulty so it's going back for a refund today. It was flickering on the bottom half of the screen intermittently. I did find it a bit too big so am thinking of staying with 24" I do not play games on the PC.

I have a iiyama Prolite E2473HDS 1920x1080 24" non IPS screen hooked up via HDMI lead which is OK but not great at all and a I want more resolution. The ASUS 27" I bought made images on screen look awesome.

I was just going to replace the screen but am now thinking of getting the Dell U2413 1920x1200 screen for the main (Photo Editing) screen attached via DVI and have the iiyama as a 2nd screen for web etc. My card can go to 2560x1600 max digital resolution or 2048x1536 VGA resolution with 800-900MHz 1GBDDR3 memory if that helps.

Will this be OK?

I'm not that bothered about 2 monitors, just want great resolution etc for image editing but wondered if I could run the 2 together.

Thanks

What graphics card do you have?

It's a Nvidia GeForce GT430

Is this Card OK? Would i be better getting a better card? If so what would you recommend for under a couple hundred pounds? Is this card causing the flickering?
Ahh... Probably not. I have just bought an ATI 7750 card (in fact I currently have two :|) as I am driving 3 monitors. They both flicker on HDMI occasionally. Looks like a line out of sync and happens once an hour for an instant.

People think this is a clock setting (see: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2242437) but I can't get rid of it at all even removing all clock changing settings

Thanks for the link. It all means nothing to me as I have no idea with this kinda stuff. They are talking about things that are well beyond my understanding.

Would reducing the refresh rate help?

It's about the onboard clocking and seems to be a "feature" with ATI graphics chip. I've never had a problem with Nvidia....

OK Cool. The screen is going back today and when I get the refund I'll get the U2413 which should be less taxing on the card....hopefully!

Hi Andy
Would like to know your thoughts when you get the new monitor. I'm in a similar predicament...mainly want the monitor for photo-editing but unsure wether to go for 27" or 24". If the 24" is a better option then I would prefer to buy a 'top-notch' one.

The 27 for me was a bit large in as much as the resolution was so much it made all the buttons and sliders on Lightroom etc really small. It was kinda nice having more real estate but i think I would prefer a 24" screen but a 1920x1200 for that little extra height. This will give great resolution plus a little more editing room. The Dell Ultrasharp U2413 looks perfect if a little expensinve so may look for alternative, perhaps the 24" version of the ASUS? Will keep this thread updated.
