So I decided to get the Dell UltraSharp U2713H to edit my photos.
Will I have to calibrate it? I was going to get the X-Rite i1Display Pro.
If you have the U2713H and not the HM version (Many places advertise the HM version as the U2713H), then very definitely you need to get the i1 Display Pro, or you've paid for monitor that can be hardware profiled, but will only be software profiling your GPU.
Do not use the i1 Display Pro software however.... use the Dell software that comes with your monitor, as using the i1 Display Pro and the included Dell software is the only way to hardware profile your screen at the 14bit level.
Latest version of the dell software is

If it's not a U2713H, and is in fact a U2713HM, then use the software that comes with the i1 DIsplay Pro instead.
They also sell it with a colorchecker. Will I need the colorchecker? (I never calibrated a monitor before so im a bit clueless lol)
I've no idea what they mean by colourchecker, but all you need to calibrate the screen is the i1 Display Pro and Dell's own software.
Has anyone got any suggetions or if that monitor is any good?
It's probably one of the best non-professional monitors you can buy right now. By non-professional, I merely mean not an Eizo ColorEdge or NEC Reference screen. In actuality, it's a high end, IPS monitor that can be hardware profiled, so it's as good as any of those. It probably lacks certain industry certifications that you don't need any way, and the absolute accuracy for pre-press proofing work, but apart from that it's a killer screen.
If it's a U2713HM, it's still superb... just can't be calibrated at the 14bit level.
I was going to connect it to my laptop to do the photo editing on.
Thanks
Just turn off any crap on the Laptop that automatically adjusts screen brightness with ambient light, or to save batter power. A calibrated screen should not be adjusted after calibration.
