Evening all,

Happy new year everyone!

I wanted to start a discussion here regarding monitor calibration. I have a Spider 3 Elite, running the Spider v4 upgrade software. I have just freshly installed Yosemite on my Mac and am wondering if this device is still good, or if there are better out there. I have had it a long time now, I know there is at least a Spider 4, maybe more as not fully checked yet.

But what do you guys use?
What would you recommend?

Would love to hear your thoughts and recommendations.

I had issues with my spyder 3 pro on Yosemite, I could not get both my monitors to be the same. When I contacted Data Colour they suggested I upgrade to a spyder 4.

I went with the i1 display pro and am happy it with it as both my dell 2209wa's now look the same.

Well chaps, that is certainly one way to look at it. Do you feel then, there wouldn't really be any benefit at all from upgrading/getting a newer calibration device. I am more just asking the question as actually wanting to get one as such if that makes sense. Great if we think the current device is fine and more than capable, if not then look for something newer.

I will run a calibration with my current device and see if it goes through ok. That will help :)

I use the Spyder4 myself having being forced to replace my Spyder2 when I bought a new PC that was running windows 8.1 and Spyder2 only worked on 7 or below.

Cant fault the 4 and it has both my very different monitors looking the same (Samsung & Acer) and they are both running of a dual header card, and according to Datacolor you must use two separate graphics cards for that.

My only gripe is the help files and documentation is very poor, they do tend to assume you already know what all the options are for and how to set them.

I have been using the Spyder 3 Pro for years, and wouldn't be without it.

It allows me to have all my monitors calibrated the same, there being three of them. My main PC, the one in my observatory, and the lap-top.

Simple to use, and effective. :)
