Hi there

I have a Samsung 940BW monitor which I know is not the greatest in the world.

Can anybody give me some "idiot" guides for calibrating it without using a Huey or Spyder?

Any help would be appreciated.

I've got the exact same monitor & I'm afraid no amount of tweaking got the image anywhere near useable for predictable image print quality, whether I used the laptop or the monitor settings - it was just dire. However, a quick bash with the Spyder2 & it's a very close match to the imac sat next to it & ouputs near-perfect prints. Sorry I've not found any other alternative.

Phil's right, you can spend hours ( I know I tried it once years ago) trying to get a monitor to look good without using calibration tools and never achieve the desired result.

I would suggest you try and get yourself a calibration device and use that. I would almost suggest it's the most important accessory you can buy for you photography.

Well, I just bit the bullet and pressed buy on a Huey. let's see if that helps get my colours etc right.

Fingers crossed...
