monitor calibration, help

ok im completely stuck with this, ive searched the internet, tried adobegamma settings etc but i cant seem to understand what they want me to do. they all talk about-

put the contrast right up (and then i cant see the slider bars on the screen adjuster (laptop screen)) and then increase the brightness to a set point.

then they want you to adjust the gamma until the centre portion of a box fades into the surrounding striped area, but i cant seem to get it to disappear? is that right?


can anyone point me in the right direction?

Adobe gamma on a desktop is not the easiest of beasts, on a lap top it must be horrendous

The only suggestion I have is try squinting to see if this helps.

But to be honest the only way to get a screen, either on a lap top or desk top machine calibrated is to use a proper device, such as a Huey, Spider, Eye 1 etc

I find having the screen further back helped with Adobe gamma

Try viewing the boxes when your about 4ft away.

I gave up with that and bought an eye one at focus on imaging 2007

i looked at buying one but they're very expensive, the cheapest one is the spider express but that doesnt measure gamma it uses predefined profiles so its no good use!
