Monitor/Cable/Adaptor question

Hopefully this is the right place to ask this question.

I mostly use a laptop but want to plug my larger monitor into it. The monitor has the usual connector (blue) but the laptop does not have a space for this. I know you can get an adaptor that will take the monitor cable and fit it into a "hole" in the laptop which looks something like this:

........ ..
........ --
........ ..

(three rows of eight square holes plus a bit slightly to the side that has two square holes top and bottom with a flat straight hole between them.)

If anyone has any idea what I am talking about and knows what the adaptor would be called I would be very grateful

If so, it's a DVI (probably DVI-I) output. You can find DVI-I cables that have a DVI connector on one end and D-Sub (that's probably the blue connector you mentioned) on the other end. Or you could try using an adapter instead.

post the laptop make and model and we can quickly tell you what connector it has and what you will need.
