model light on a flash?

I was watching a video and they mentioned model light on the 580ex, can anyone expand on that as I thought model lights were just on studio lights

Probably refering to the modelling flash feature - press the DoF button and the flash stobes very quickly for a couple of seconds, mimicking continuous light just long enough for you to see what's what.

If you're lucky that is. I've only ever used that feature by accident. It frightens your subject and since it sounds like an angry wasp I nearly dropped the camera.

Thanks for getting back to me and I'm sorry I missed the reply until now!!

Thats didn't work with my setup, but now I've set model light to be on my test button fires for longer and it does indeed sound very angry

If you've a newer camera you'll probably have to set the DoF preview button to do the flash thing, it used to be default.
