I know I can scan and merge two images or buy a V750 but neither of these options are really ideal.

I was wondering if any one has tried or heard of any other mods.

Ideas I've not looked into properly include:
  • Removing the mask in the lid and seeing if the lamp is wide enough to use with out the limitations of the plastic mask
  • Lifting the lid and using and external light source such as the xray thing @Mr Bump had or the iPad lifted a little. I believe @Woodsy managed to get something similar to work

Alternatively is there any real difference between the higher end older epsons that can scan 5x4 natively and the V500. I could always sell the V500 and try to get a 4990.

Anything I've not thought of?

I did see a metallic tent like object that you can use to 'trick' the scanner into using the main light as the back light. IF that makes sense.

Probably not.

Sorry for the delay. I'm afraid I didn't get anything like that working, steve. I had the idea, but not the time. If I do get round to it, I'll be sure to publish some results on here :)

Cheers guys I'll need to have a try with some non destructive ideas when I get back.

I have an old Epson 4970 (I think that's the number) which scans 5x4 (and 10 x 8) very well. I had to make my own film holders but with a CNC router at work, that wasn't a problem. let me know if you ever need one.

Steve.
