Just modded mine:

Here's how I did it

Apparantly it's fairly straightforward to do on the YN-460 - maybe I should get you to mod some

I like your thinking

if you're serious flash I know a lot of starving engineering students

Ive already modded mine a while back with a 2.5mm jack, now I reopened it and changed it to a 3.5mm and broke the clip.. just applied some araldite and waiting for it to harden... I'll show you pics later..

Edit:
Here it is FITP

its actually a 462 and not 460... they should be identical.

Write up is decent enough but you don't say why you've modded your flash  or what the benefits are??

Thanks.
I now use RF-602 triggers. I don't trust the yuongnuo triggers' hotshoe really, and don't want to break them either. That's why I modded my flash and use 3.5mm jack.
Add to that the joy of DIY... right now I'm thinking of changing the sync port of my 580 ex II with a 3.5mm port :bang:...

Apart from the joys of DIY, this does seem to me like an unnecessary mod.

What is wrong with the RF-602's hot shoe connection? You have done nothing more than by-pass it with a cable connection, and in doing so disabled the Yongnuo's wake-up facility.

And if, for whatever reason, you want a cable sync connection, why not use a hot shoe co-ax adapter for a fiver?

I fitted a 580ex with a 3.5mm socket about a year ago for the single reason that when i used it with a hot shoe coax adapter, and an umbrella light stand bracket it added another inch to an already off centre flashgun

Good work, but seems a bit pointless to me. I find the RF-602's really secure on my flash, and as above, if you've lost the ability to use the wake up function I fail to see any real benefit.

No doubting you have some great DIY skills though.
