I am going to start trying to develop my own black and white at home and was considering the MOD 54. Are there any users here who can have used it and can say whether it is worth buying? Thanks.

I haven't got one but I've seen them down at Silverprint and I think they should work quite well and appear to be fairly simple to load.

Don't forget though you'll need a Paterson 3 reel tank as they don't fit the other tanks like Jobo etc. So you're looking at £70 for the full set up.

Just googled the MOD54......quite a cool little gadget!

As Nick says you obviously need the patterson tank as well.

Should the cost of setting up to develop sheet film proves a little expensive atm then perhaps starting out by making tacos and deving them directly in your tank may be an option.

It seems like quite a good bit of kit and I have seen somewhere you can get them with the tank, so that would not be too bad. I had thought about the taco method, but had seen some mixed results and was be looking for something a bit more consistent. I think tray development might a bit too difficult for me!

I got one! but I haven't used it yet... does what it says on the tin afaic..

One thing to remember with these is to GENTLY agitate the film when developing it or it can easily pop out of the holder. Rather than back and forth just twirl the stick in ONE direction. ( Don't ask how I found out)
Otherwise once you get used it I found it brilliant. Bought to replace a Combiplan which always seemed to leak.
