thanks,
yes, pleanty to learn..started with wordpress but left it in the end...so made this jpg file in the end and will use it as a template ;)

I wouldn't use that font. Unless the browser/OS has font smoothing on. Thats gunna hurt the eyes. Go for somthing a little less 'fancy'

noted and will have a look...but on mine 24" looks ok ;)

All the visible text is inside the .jpg as part of the image, so font smoothing will have no effect, as (as far as the browser/OS is concerned) it isn't a font.

One thing you should be aware of is that search engines generally can't read or index text inside images, and meta tags get so much abuse that they tend to be ignored, so if you want to show up in the search engines, you'll need to keep the body text as text.

HTH :)

the thing to remember os that while you have a shiney 24" monitor - bloke who's looking will be on a pants 12" laptop screen and get it OK on that

You do realise it's just a mock up for the moment.....

As for the design, it's fine and very clean, but how will your visitors navigate to different pages or find out how to contact you other than by email?

Later on I will create menus/links etc

Just made this jpg and set it up as background to keep domain busy ;)

hopefully in next couple of days/weeks I will finish it off

first version was resizing and adjusting to window size...but didn't quite liked it (maybe because on 16:10 ratio it doesn't look good ;)

what resolution would be "default" one for web pages ? 1024x768 ?

not sure but from looking at my analytics I hade 58 different resolutions visit in the last month.

The most common 3 were 1280 x 800, 1366 x768 & 1280 x 1024. Just for info my site resizes, but defaults top a max width of 960 pxls

I build my sites to be visible clearly at 1024x768 resolution, but taking scroll bars etc in to consideration build them generally about 960 pixels wide.

Good luck with the site.

thanks chaps...

now have to find a way for main photo to change every few seconds....Will look into frames...and maybe frames will be better to change content of the page and will keep menus, logo etc in one place...

or you would advise something else? any advise welcome:)

I would avoid using frames. You can use includes instead so that the page the visitor sees is built from several files meaning you only have to create and maintain one navigation/footer/etc page instead of repeating on every single page.

Having read that back I'm not sure that it makes any sense, so here is a link which hopefully explains includes a bit better! :)
