Yes
I am after a new phone on pay monthly but I would rather like one that can store RAW files.

Anyone know what phones would fit the bill?

Pretty much any phone that shows up as a drive in Windows when you connect it with a USB cable can be used to store raw files (or any other kind of file).

Did you want the phone to actually be able to do something with those files?

I don't want one that will shoot RAW, just one that will store them.

I was shooting aviation at Paris CDG last year and had to transfer some files from my memory cards to my netbook. I was a right pain getting my netbook out so doing that onto a phone would be much easier.

Well, phones mostly use Mini-SD cards for storage, so you're probably not going to get any more storage than you already get with your memory cards - they usually don't have card readers built in either, so you're still going to be hooking up to your laptop to transfer files to it.

You'd need to look at some form of portable image storage device rather than a phone. Something that has a hard drive inside it as well as appropriate memory card readers (some have an LCD for reviewing/deleting images, and some support various RAW file formats).

Had you considered just buying more memory cards? Probably your cheapest option.

I have considered more cards (got 1 more for christmas :D).

I am after a new phone and contract at the moment so that is why I am wondering if I can combine the two.
Is there anything with a similar size memory to the large capacity (32GB) iPhones? I can't afford an iPhone, not by a loooong way. :'(

How do you anticipate getting the RAW files on to the phone though?

I don't know of a phone that will allow you to pull the files across directly from the camera, so you would still be needing to get the laptop/netbook out to transfer the files across, which kind of defeats the object somewhat.

As others have said, additional memory cards is going to be your easiest/cheapest option.

Edit: Just realised Kaouthia already pointed out you will still need your lappie.

I know this is repitition but there is currently no phone available that you can transfer your files too without using a computer. The N97 has 32Gb of memory and is cheaper than an iphone but it won't make getting the images onto it any easier.

If you want a portable stroage device there are a few available that you just plug a card into and it copied your files across - but I'll bet for what you need more cards would be easier. Currently 8Gb cards from sandisk are about £30

So there isn't a phone that you can plug a USB cable into and get the pics off that way?
