Mobile phones with internet

Firstly I do not know much about smartphone technology and to be honest I dont want one, I'm more than happy with my tenner a month cheapy which is about as much as I can afford, so please try and not convince me to get the latest iphone or whatever.

Recently I have been putting together a couple of websites for folk I know and it seems as well as fitting the site on the monitor it's expected to fit on a mobile phone screen, I can live with that. Problem is I don't have a smartphone to check progress.
What should I look for as a dirt cheap smartphone that can connect to the home internet router?
I'm not interested in using it as a phone or camera.
I think my younger family members are getting fed up with me asking them if a site I've been working on fits the phone

Instead of a phone you could try an iPod touch? Cheaper, wifi only, and you'd only need to get a small one?

ideally you should do a mobile version of the websites as well. this will load quicker for smartphones and tablets

Ideally you need to dev for the device people will be using.

I would get a new gen iPod Touch which has the same screen as the iPhone 5 along with the same mobile browser (you can use it after for a Ipod! when you're done)

Get a cheap android phone from ebay to test their browsers as they are all the same (roughly)

Hmm, I'm sure the grandkids had ipod touch's but have since progressed to Iphone 5 what have you, must give them a call.
