Mobile Phone photography

You are not alone, I got out the dictionary for that one. But hey, at least I can play the Johny foreigner card :p
 
So........mobile phone camera's, which is best orange or yellow!
 
Mines orange :) it really is. A Nokia Lumia 930. It is brilliant :)

Well as there was only 3 minutes between the posts (blimey! maths too:D), I think intelligent people would (and did) guess that it's a word I'm familiar with ;)

I've been using my mobile phone to take snaps of family and friends when I didn't have or couldn't be bothered to carry :D my DSLR kit
To be honest tho I've been disappointed with the results when viewing on a bigger screen am now getting a decent compact (Sony RX100 ) to carry around all the time :)
 
Likewise. My phone is fine for the odd documentary shot that I don't plan on printing or viewing at a decent size, but not for anything else. I always find it severly lacking when I import them to LR, but that said, they can surpise you every now and then. I bought an RX100 to go travelling with. Its actually smaller than my phone and has almost aps-c iq. And it doesn't run out of battery after 2 hours (and memory!)!

My biggest bug bear with mobile photography (aside from the microscopic sensor and lens) is the fact its a phone.

I can't hold it the way I want to, I can't hold it as steady as I'd want to, I can't control its functions as I want to!

Some good mobile phones coming out soon. With great cameras! I am a big fan of Mobile Phone Cameras these days. Yes, not for the pro i agree but superb for a casual user like me!
 
Whilst I appreciate that it isn't for everyone, I really wouldn't be so dismissive about it as a tool. Sure we all know the technicalities like sensor size, lenses and all that. However there is more to it to take a great photo. I mean surely one need to understand photography to take great photos.

But fair enough, I've found it hard to get some pro examples for Android users.

Apple just finished a campaign on the underground, larger size than most of you would print at.

If you know what you are doing it can be a fantastic tool.

While I, personally, dislike mobile phone photography its sometimes worth remembering what you're taking a photo *of* is far more important than what you're taking it *with*.

Exactly the one I referred to earlier. Printed out larger than most here who say it is rubbish ever do themselves.

I must admit I was surrprised at some of the photos featured (see http://www.cultofmac.com/327169/pho...h-exposure-from-shot-on-iphone-6-ad-campaign/) and some look suspiciously better on the bbillboard than even when viewed on a much smaller screen which makes me think they might have been tweaked for the larger format, and this I thought was interesting;

"Photographers were paid for the images selected, but none could discuss how much because of a non-disclosure agreement they all had to sign. Some privately said they did not question what was offered and later found out some of the professional photographers were able to negotiate a higher fee."

Not sure what is interesting about that? Doesn't that distinguish the pro's from the amateurs, knowing not just their value but also the market value...And not least approaching it from a business perspective opposed to 'just pleased they want to use my picture' ;)

I guess so. But one thing I think it shows is they seem very keen to use the professional's shots in the campagn, as why would such a huge powerful company have their arms twisted over raising what must have been a standard fee that other's weren't asking? My cynical side thinks its because it showed their product in a much better light? :sneaky:

Perhaps because there is more than just the tools to take a fantastic photo? Who knows, does it really matter that some people may get paid more than others?

Well, i sold my DSLR setup as after 2 holidays of using my Mobile phone camera and seeing the results i found that for 'ME' the photos were more than good enough for what i use a camera for. I even made to Photo albums |(Sent pics off to have done) and everyone was well impressed with the result. I am not a pro in any shape or form so for me it serves my needs and has given me some really superb results. Plus, its so nice not to carry bulky DSLR equipment around!!

I can only see Mob Phone camera tech getting better and better. Compared to a couple of years ago its improved vastly!

It does sound as if i prefer the Mob phone camera these days!

I have used many different types over the years and now for me the Mob Phone Camera is more than suitable for my needs.
 
I have my RX100 for when I don't want to lug my DSLR about, aps-c IQ (it has a 1" sensor but it's as good as my cropped Canons!), full control and smaller than my iPhone!

...and thats against my iphone 5 whch is pretty small. My 6 is even bigger, and the new Samsungs and HTCs are even bigger than that :):)

Ok, it is thicker, but its not really noticable in your pocket! That begs the question, why use a phone when you can carry one of these ;).

I don't, its one of my escapes.

At the very least, I don't want my emails popping up in my viewfinder!

Anyway, we're talking about photography over mobile comms in this thread ;)
