Hi Guys,

using a 3 dongle for net access, is it possible to fit the sim from this into a mobile phone for internet access? - or is there a sim available that does both, instead of paying for two different sims?

So you have a seperate mobile phone and mobile broadband contract/SIM.

Do you have a smartphone? If so you should be able to 'tether' that to your computer and use your mobile phone for data, and get rid of the dongle.

Note that you may have to pay for the ability to tether your smartphone.

Hi,

thanks for reply.

Haven't purchased a phone yet, wondering if I stuck with 3for the smartphone or buy an unlocked phone, then I could use the 'dongle sim' for both - otherwise it would be £15 month for dongle plus circa £25 month for phone...if that makes sense

It never really makes sense to double up on data contracts and I have never seen the point in an ipad with 3g AND wifi when most modern smartphones have a "personal hotspot" facility.

Some sims only let you use data.

As long as it is a voice and data SIMM it should work

Hi Guys,

thanks for replies.

Just a thought, will the dongle simm have an assoc' tel no. & if so, how would I retreive it?

The SIM from the dongle may let you make calls, but you'll be paying by the minute, as there will be no included minutes. Certainly you can usually send/receive SMS.

I have a seperate contract for my tablet, mainly for convenience and the fact that wifi hotspot on smartphones drain battery pretty fast.
