Right, Currently I have, £30 pm 12mth contract, vodafone, 250 m + 100 T and free Nokia 5800. Got it through dial a phone and get cashbacks, so works out £17.50 pm. I rang them asking what upgrade I could get, expecting a Nokia N97. Nope, they said, if I wanted one of them I'd have to pay £250 for the phone.! I asked what I could have for free, and they just gave me a list of cheapo handsets, such as Nokia 6700, or maybe another 5800, but it 'd have to be for an 18mth contract and I probably wouldn't get the cashback! Tried the old trick of cancelling, and they said go and ask vodafone, don't even offer me a better deal! Vodafone wouldn't even give me a better deal if I got the iphone - same price as if I were a new customer. So, did a bit of searching online and found mobiles.co.uk, which offer good deals and good cashbacks/gifts. particularly tempted with the 35 pm and you get 300 m/unlit txt free SE C902, and its only 12 mth. Also get 8 mths free - so only effectively £140 for the whole year. I know its a boring topic, but what do you think? And any ideas/suggestions as to how to get my current company to give me a better deal? From what I've heard, I thought they'd be falling over themselves to give me a better deal! :bonk:

Work out what your call and txt requirement is. Then decide on a phone or two. And then research best package to meet your needs.

IMHO people spend too much time and effort in researching discounts and offers. If the same time and efforts were directed towards generating income then one would be far better off.

Having said that, take a look at www.blackberry-uk.com (I think, I'm on my mobile atm) and study their discount card. Use it wisely and you could end up paying nothing for your mobile usage.

Thats a bit like my Virgin contract, I have had it 8 months now and only paid for 2 months use so very wise words 2blue:thumbs:

tks. I know I'm not on the best deal, but out here in the sticks vodafone are the only ones that have a signal. BTW, I know it looks pretty dear, but I do get the cashbacks (have received the cheques etc) and crucially is only 12 mth so then it works out ok ish - if I go for the one from mobiles.co.uk, it works out only £11 something a month, doesn't look bad to me..? thanks for that link, 2blu4u, I'll have to have a closer look on the network etc. ;)

Yes you probably do get the raw end of the stick living in a bad reception area but you shouldnt have to pay more than city people to get the same as we pay for, doesnt seem fair TBH

With most companies you have to play a game of brinkmanship in terms of contract cancelling. Threatening to cancel is not enough, they've heard it all before.

The issue is you don't get a great deal cos you aren't signing up to more than 12 months and you're getting cashback alng the way. The incentive for the company offering you arr SE elsewhere is a new sign up.

We just bought our kids a t mobile contract for an android phone - £20 quid a month, 300mins, unlimited texts and data, a good deal but it's over 2 years!

Hope you get something sorted :)

All down to what the individual requires out of their phone but I found pay as you go from Asda @ 8p per minute for calls and texts at all times, suited my needs and now pay less than when I was on contract, no phone supplied but I am not interested in having the latest all bells and whistles phone via upgrades anyway.

Just got out of my T.mobile contract.
I was always having a good phone with all the bells and whistles, but now ive come to thinking that I don't really need all the gizmo's they have on em.
I reckon most people only really need a phone for calling, texting and the odd photo, all the rest is hot air...well me anyway.
So now ive gone to Virgin Mobile's sim only, for £10 a month you get 200 mins and unlimited texts.

tks for the input. I'm fairly happy with my Nokia 5800, so I reckon I'll try the Asda one, and see how that works out. Put on a tenner a month, that'll give me about 125 mins a month..plus I'd be able to send mms etc without worrying about extra charges. I'll see how that goes, though if I have to put more on, I may as well go on contract and get the phone etc you'd get. :)
