Morning all!
We are moving into rented accommodation for a few weeks can anyone give advice on mobile internet etc so that I can still connect
and use my Mac Ipad etc

Have no clue did not even know you could until moments ago as I never have had the need for it :)

No idea where to start.

I use a mobile dongle for when I'm out and about and need to use a laptop or iPad. Works a treat - but make sure that you have a decent 3G data signal in your area from your chosen provider.

The first thing I'd suggest is see which service provider has the best signal were your moving to, as for example I don't even get 3G at my home on Vodafone yes someone on Three will get about 5mb download and in excess of 2mb upload speeds, which is actually significantly higher than my BT broadband

what phone and network are you on?

for example i used my iphone as a hotspot while waiting for ADSL to be activated, but i had full 3G coverage and unlimited data (Three).

If you have a smartphone with a hotspot it might be worth getting a Three PAG sim top up £15 and you have unlimited data then for 30 days. But it's obviously best to check coverage etc before spending your money.

As has been mentioned above '3' seem to have a good reputation for mobile internet, providing you can get a 3G signal. PAYG seems to be the way to go if it is for a short term fix.

Thank you everyone this helps a lot.
I have an iPhone 4s and am with 3 not sure hiw I use hot spots but will go and google it

As above, it depends on the network availability and signal strength. My wife lives in a rural area - I'm in another country at the moment - and can only get a weak signal on O2 and Vodafone, with frequent downtime. None of the other networks have coverage, and there's no 3G signal for miles. Most people in towns and cities seem to have far more choice.

I have a 3M dongle connected to a router and that works fine apart from the odd dropout ocasionally.

The speed is not great but for normal surfing it doesn't bother me and I can download normal programs etc with a short time.

Costs me abut £16/mth for 15GB/mth and was the most economical around.
