I find myself in need of some Internet access for my lappy.

I see you can get these dongles to plug in. I am looking for the simplest and cheapest one to get. I don't want it as an on going contract as I will only need it once a month or so.

Any suggestions please.

Ah must have searched badly, will try again. Thanks:)

I got mine from Orange because I already have my mobile with them. I pay £5 a month and get quite a bit of usage for that. It's only the cost of 2 coffees at Costa for ongoing internet access so I got it and it works great.

I started a thread on this subject recently. As Gary says 3 came out on top. I bought a 3 dongle and have not been disappointed, i no longer use my O2 one.

I've just got a 3 dongle as a backup. Had them check the locations I usually go to for coverage and all looked good. Cost is £7.50 pm and went for this as opposed to payg. Only used it twice but connection and upload speed was good.

I've got a t-mobile PAYG and its OK. I tend to put my phone sim in though - I rarely use it and when I do its to wire in a few pics to newspaper and I can't get home in time.

I was told not to do this, it didnt work with mine anyway. I managed to get a free one with my orange contract, but even if I had to pay it was only £5 per month. I had a tmobile PAYG but hardly ever used it so the free option seemed much better.

I have one with orange which I use a lot. £10 per month for 1.5gb usage per month. Dongle also doubles up as a USB flash drive and came with an 8gb SanDisk micro SD card.

I have Orange contract at around £5 pm for 500MB, I also have a Vodaphone PAYG which I got from Currys at around £30 + £10 top up when the Orange didn't give me cover in a 'dip' in Yorkshire.
Unless you will use it a lot PAYG is probably the best option, I had the 1.5GB with Orange previously but never got even close to capacity so rang to cancel and they offered the 500MB.

Three also do a MIFI device on PAYG. It's £50 for the MIFI upfront, then the PAYG topups on top. You can connect up to five WIFI devices (laptop, ipod touch etc) at the same time.

Whereabouts are you? This makes a difference - where i am, signal is crap on many networks!

I have a 3 Mifi, use it right on the coast. Works great.
Cost £69.99 PAYG with 3GB to last 3 months. (Think it was an offer)
Also if its not great for you, you have 3 days to take it back for a full refund.

Do you have internet access with your phone contract?

If so you could always tether it to your laptop and away you go.
That may be an option if you only intend to use it once or twice a month.

I use a three dongle and have always received a connection of some sort, even on remote campsites

I have a T Mobile on contract for £15 p/m and have always had pretty good results. in fact much better coverage than my O2 phone!

I'm sat on the coast of Northumberland in an old cottage 3 minutes from the beach.

I use a Virgin dongle that I pay an extra £8 for 1gb per month. I'm struggling to get a signal but I'm managing so I think it's worth the money :D

As already suggested, if your mobile supports 3G data, why not tether it to your laptop?
I do this quite often and I've yet to have any additional charges due to excessive internet use.

Thanks for all the replies guys and gals.
won't be tethering it to my phoneas I just have a bog standard mobile that makes calls and only calls on a payg.

Went out and got a dongle for 3 so should be sorted now

Thanks again:)
