Anyone else mixing their own soup?

I've just developed a sheet of fp4 in d23. I've not scanned it yet, there is a slightly annoying line down the negative, but it looks okay?

The other stuff I've been using this year is obsidian aqua which is a Catechol based developer related to hypercat. It's high acutance and gives a similar look to rodinal but has a good compensating effect and the stain really dials down run away highlights.

I've got all the raw chemicals for Barry Thornton's two bath but haven't actually given it a go yet (been shooting Portra and Ektar while the sun was shining). I've got a couple of half shot rolls of Delta 100 and Tri-X, so they will be the first in the pot for the BT. Quite looking forward to playing with the super-accurate scales and pretending I'm a chemist :)

Not yet, but it's on the cards. Finally gained access to a wet chemistry lab so will be able to make them in a slightly more controlled environment!

Looks like a variation of a two bath D23, thats my next plan. Should really help with some of the very high contrast negs I produce.

What are you mixing, I've just realised I'm not sure if I put 5g or 10g of metol in the mix I made last night!! You should at least have no problems getting access to dry chemicals, some stuff is very hard or expensive to get if you're not attached to an educational establishment, sulphite took me ages to source.

I'm looking to try a couple of Pyro recipes, and probably one of the Kodak ones D23? I might try making a technical developer from the Darkroom Cookbook as well!

I'm following the recipe here: http://www.awh-imaging.co.uk/barrythornton/2bath2.htm

Also check out the Teaspoon two bath at the bottom of the page. You use bath B (Sodium Metaborate) in combination with a normal developer to help control contrast.

I sourced most of my chemicals from eBay and one (can't remember which) came from Silverprint, as they worked out cheapest. I think the whole lot cost about £40 and the scales were £8 from eBay (accurate to 0.1g). I bought the chemicals thinking that the recipe was one-shot, then re-read it and realised it will process at least 15 rolls...which means I've got enough developer to open my own lab!

Any one used d23 stock? I read somewhere that you can get about 10 rolls or equivalent reusing at stock but I cannot find where I read that, I also have it in my head you need to add 10% for each roll developed but again I can't confirm this! Any advice?

FujiLove : I'm interested in those accurate scales you got off e-bay -- I have a VERY Ancient scales I got in 1970 when I was a Photographer at University College London. they have two ' Pans' and a balanced arm and weights in a box up to 250 Gms one but for the very small weights they are in a small box and I pick them up with tweezers, but I would like to 'Modernise' my scales !

Hi Pete - I had a trawl through my emails and it looks like I actually bought them from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00335KY6E/

They're still working fine!

Thanks -- I will investigate ---
