Mixing Speedlights with Studio Flash's

Hi all,

I am looking to get some new kit to go with;

2 x Jessops 260afdc
1 x Canon 430ex
2 x FITP Reflective/Shootthrough unbrella's
2 x Light Standing
Cheap Ebay style triggers
3x2m background support with white bed sheet

This is what i have done with the current kit.

I am thinking a new white/black popup backgrund with train would be very useful rather than my bedsheet to give more options and I am now also thinking of studio lights to give me more the facility to use light shaping tools and to expand to larger groups.

But do speed lights and studio lights work well together? Is there anything else that would help or would well with my exisiting kit?

been using the Jessops 360 AFD's alongside studio strobes with no problems at all.
Just flick the Slave switch on,and they trigger each other quite happily.
Just need to get some radio triggers....Sync cord is a pain in the rear

Should work fine. I don't think the 430EX has a regular optical slave so that won't fire off the others. In which case, rig that up to the radio trigger and then the 430EX in turn will fire the Jessops flashes and your new studio lights, all of which (should) have built in optical slaves.

Nope, just a sheet of clear perspex from B&Q.

Cool it seems to be working well for you. Can I be a pain and ask some questions:

How are you using the lights in order to get your results ?

How much post processing are you doing to get 'all white' ?

How far is the subject from the background ?

for the one laying down i think it was about 2m from back ground, 430ex on background center of picture with diffuser, 2 360afdc one very low one quite high pointing down.

I have no paint shop software so only using the Canon supplied one.

Using Auto Levels, white balance, sharpening and adjusting brightness. It seems to be the brightness which makes the big difference in getting whiter whites
