It says on the data sheet that you shouldn't mix up part quantities of these but should mix them all. If this is the case I need to mix up 5L of each in one go. Are there any storage problems with this stuff? Do you really need to mix it all up in one go?

y'know for like 2 minutes I was trying to figure out WTF ??

why the hell is he mixing ID-11 with Bromophen...

Dunno about Bromophen but ID-11 keeps reasonably well in tight full bottles, mix it all, the stuff goes hardly anywhere anyway.
2 developing sessions would blow my 5 litres easy

I have checked all my accordian bottles and after discarding the ones with crystalised chemicals still in them I only have enough to store 3L can I store 2L in a 2L drinks bottle or does it need to be light tight too?

I have the boxes of bromophen and ID-11 to make 5L plus I have 1/2L bottles of rapid fixed and ilfostop. Not checked what I have to do with the other two yet :)

Nah, ID-11 will be fine in a 2 litre drinks bottle, it must be clean though.
The fixer is probably 1-4 mix, but you don't throw it away, so you can either mix it as you need it or mix up a 1 or 2 litre bottle @ 1-4 and after fixing poor it back into the bottle, that will last quite a while.
Dunno about ilfostop, I use water.

Thanks John,

I will check them in the morning and have a look what the other accordian bottles are like and use a couple of 2L filter water bottles plus the accordian bottles if I have too.

Now I'm messing around with the bulk loader, I have a raft load of stuff all with no instructions and little idea but I'm determined to get right into this film lark. Then its MF next year and a decent scanner.

I think I have sussed this film loader, stick bulk film into hopper (in a changing bag/dk room) leaving a small amount sticking out into chamber. Fit film cassette into chamber and attach end of film. Close lid and wind on until the dial shows the number of images you want, wind on another couple of images and open chamber, cut film and start again....

Should work the same as a normal film but the last 2-3 cells will already have been blown unless the entire process is done in the dark which appears rather fiddly!

To save buying accordion/concertina bottles, I use the 2 pint plastic supermarket milk bottles. If only partially full, I squeeze the sides with the lid loose, then when the liquid's up to the brim tighten the lid hard down. The air seal seems to hold OK. You can compress them to about half the original volume, then once below that, decant into a 1 pint plastic bottle and repeat down to about 500ml. I keep the bottles in a cardboard 6 bottle wine box, which means they stay dark. I've got some 3 month old ID-11 which is still OK to use which I've stored this way.

Sounds like a good plan. I have about 10 accordian bottles though so 3 for each developer (paper and film) and stick the extra 2L in a PET bottle. When I have two empty accordian bottles for each type I can re-fill them from the PET bottle.

Right that is the ID-11 mixed....

I was using a set of scales to mix it and started with 3.8L of 40 degree water and mixed as per instructions. I then zero'd it to add the next 1.2L of cold water but it bottomed out so. I was pouring the water from a 2L bottle so I know that the bucket contained 4.9L to 5.1L ..... I hope that that is accurate enough :)

Filled the 2L bottle and 3 1L accordian bottles then put 200ml of the stock liquid into a 4th accordian bottle of a different colour and added 600ml of cold water.

SO

I should have a working 1+3 bottle and about 4.8L of stock ID-11

Just hope I haven't buggered it up. Oh and it says that the stock liquid keeps for 6 months. Is that all? I was hoping it would keep longer than that. Just need to work out how much liquid goes into the dev tank now and get the film onto the spools......

To be honest I just keep ID-11 as a stock solution (hence the word "Stock") , then make up the 1+3 as I'm ready for use - use it once, and into the waste bottle for disposal (usually termed one shot developer). Once diluted to working strengths it won't last very long, I'd try and use it in the next week or so tbh.

My patterson tank uses 300ml for a single 35mm film, 600ml for two, or 500ml if the spiral is set for 120 film (though I do occasionally load two films into the same spiral one after the other) - basically, just ensure that there's enough liquid to fully cover the spiral and a bit extra for good luck. For the stop and fix, I just put at least the above amounts in, let them do their stuff, then pour back into the 1L bottle ready for next time.

Thanks, I have two films ready to develop plus one of Helens so that's 900ml of the 1litre. Just got all the stuff together and extracted my first film from it's can into the developer (an old film not one I have just taken). I am just mixing the stop and fixer and have all the rest of the stuff. I have two developer tanks ready so I'm not trying to put film in a wet container! Hopefully I will have two developed films by tonight!! Then it us on to my first go with the paper doing prints. This is so much more fulfilling than digital. I really want to get a mf camera next but would need a new enlarger too.

It's surprising how quickly you can dry the spiral out with a hairdryer
