Missing serial number

Looking to sell my Nikon 18-55 vr lens to camera jungle. Serial number is not on the lens. There is an indented panel, below the lens description, but it is empty.

Is this usual?

I think I brought it used, but never really used it.

It could have been stolen and they took the numbers off. If it was a gray import the numbers would be on it
