Yes
I did a photoshoot today and on returning home transferred the images to my iMac. About 2 thirds transferred over and the rest weren't visible in the folder when you opened it to do the initial transfer.
Put the memory card back in the computer and there they are. Put the card in the card reader and they aren't visible.
Help !! please
John.

Plug the camera in via USB and download them that way?

Once you have them safely off.. format the card in the camera.

The imac won't recognise the 5D
Bought a new card reader with no success
Heading out to mates to see if they will load into his laptop

It is possible that the card has become corrupt. It may be a problem with the controller chip in the card. Had a similar problem some years ago. It may be possible to recover the images using recovery software. Unfortunately it didn't work in my case, but it's worth a try. What size does the computer state the size of the card is. Does it report a smaller size than the card really is. If so I don't think recovery software is going to help as the card cannot be read beyond a certain point. Try to recover the images by all means but never use that card again.

If you can see the 'missing' images with the card present, try opening them one by one, then re-saving them to the location on your hard drive where the others are stored. If they are raw then make sure you use an application to open that can handle raw format - otherwise you may just get the low-res jpg that's usually embedded.

There is absolutely no reason why that would be the case, unless you fiddled with camera settings way too far.

The imac not recognising the 5D when googled is a common problem.
Some say mountain Lion and above is not yet compatible.
The images I have now thankfully been able to download to a laptop and the card dumped just in case it is corrupt.
Thx for the help.
John.

The 5D not being seen by the Mac is not uncommon. The original Canon drivers for the Mk1 were written for the older PPC configuration. Apple used Rosetta Stone to allow these older apps tio be run under 32 bit configuration. When the mac OS went 64 bit Rosetta was not updated, hence the problem. Canon have not updated the drivers for the 5DMk1 so hence the problem.

Is it not the generic mass storage device protocol to access the 5D? Any linux would have no problem w/o canon drivers.

As far as I am aware the camera is not seen as a mass storage device so the computer needs to have protocols in place to connect to the camera. Now I could be mislead , as I had problems with Lightroom seeing my Mk1 5D and this was the reason given by Adobe. Unfortunately I don't have any computers without the Canon software installed so I can't try out this theory.
