I was looking for polaroid film on ebay and spotted an interresting offer which also included a bronica sq-a.
Because I had just spotted RJ (shysh4rk) travelling photo's I decided to go for it.

The pack included:
  • 10 fujifilm sq-a fp-100 (worth 12-14£ each)
  • a polaroid back
  • Camera Body (bronica sq-a) with waist finder
  • 120 Film back with spare dark slide
  • 80mm 2.8 Lens with both front and rear caps
  • 50mm 3.5 Lens with both front and rear caps
  • Square lens Hood
I put a silly bid of 300£ thinking that this was worth much much more. Turn out the winning bid was 310£!!!
Was I right to think that this setup was worth much more?

It looks like it could have been a fairly good deal, depending on the condition of the kit, especially if you needed some polaroid film. There are some very good deals to be had on the SQ series cameras though, so another one will certainly pop up again, if you're patient.

To be honnest, I'm intended to stick a bit with my OM1. See how I get on before spending more money.
What kind of money do you think this equipment would have been worth without the polaroid film?

Well, for an SQ-A kit with an 80mm lens and 120 back from a dealer, I would expect to pay around £225-£250 if it's an S lens and closer to £300 if it's a PS lens (the PS lenses are newer with better coating). If you're buying from eBay, Gumtree, classifieds, etc. then this price would obviously come down a bit as the gear wouldn't be guaranteed.

That said, there are a lot of possible kit combinations, as there are multiple bodies (e.g., SQ, SQ-A, SQ-B, SQ-Ai, and SQ-Am), two series of lenses (e.g., S vs PS), different viewfinders (e.g., waist level, metered prism, non-metered prism, 45 degree prism, chimney finder, etc.), a multitude accessories (e.g., speed grip, bellows, etc.), and many different types of film backs, so you do need to evaluate each kit on its own merit.

kits like that oftne dont attract to many bids as people tend to not look at the bigger picture, I have bought a few old nikon bundles last year as I wanted select bits and sold the rest one.

The best one was an old FE2 bundle with a bag of lenses, turns out there was wide angle sigma in the bag woth over £100 alone and I only paid £150 for everying after I sold on the bits I didnt need and factored in ebay fees and faff the FE2 cost me about £1

You don't know that the winning bidder didn't have a much higher bid in place.

They may have been willing to pay £500 for it but ebay will only increase to the next bid above yours, so it will show £310 because that is what it sold for, but it will not show what their highest bid was.

Hope this makes you feel a little bit better! :D

Indeed - have often felt like I've missed out on Ebay by a few quid but the reality is as you say. You also need to bear this in mind when scanning Ebay for prices that items have sold for - to buy them yourself you would have had to bid more than the figure they sold for.
