Why do some bidders on Ebay act in such a mean spirited way

Just saw an item that had a reasonable buy it now price and then someone ruins it by placing a bid

Sure they have no intention of actually buying it, but by bidding ruin it for someone else by removing the BIN price.

Even if they do want it, quite often once it turns into a proper auction it sells for a higher price than they could have originally got it for

Just as daft as paying more for s/hand goods than you can buy things new for, very strange some of these Ebay people

I can see what you mean, but a lot of things are won for a single bid thats less than the BIN value (I have won things that way and I had every intention of buying), and I certainly did not bid with the idea of stopping someone using the BIN, I did it purely because I was not prepared to pay the BIN amount. Sometimes it is a small amount more sometimes its a more significant amount but I doubt they did it to stop someone using BIN!!

Would be interesting if ebay let the BIN stay live though when bids have been put on, that would be an fun experiment!

Can see what you are getting at Susie, but very unlikely anyone thinks they will get a 200quid lens for 99p

If you put a reserve on the item, the BIN stays live until the reserve is met, agree it would be interesting if it stayed there on ordinary auctions

I have been listing anything i sell with a BIN or Best Offer, seems to be cheaper and no chance of having to sell something well under its value.

no but as a normal auction it may sell for £150 rather than the BIN price of £200

they may also not have put a bid on it at 99p, they may have put a maximum bid of £150 but until someone else bids it wont increase the price from the minimum
